damnit sorry... lol. i fuxed up. it's fixed now.![]()
ill say randy rhoads, kirt hamret(sp) or jimmy page
kirk hammet? come on dude. joe satriani taught him everything he knows, to bad he didnt pick up more of joe's talent and ability. jimi was a pioneer in his day but is not by far the best guitar player ever.

lol i can argue with every reply on here. while i think van halen is an awesome player , satriani dwarfs him with technical ability and style
agree,i can goo all day bout musicOriginally Posted by green91
eddie is good, just never really liked his style
SRV ftw
why is fatass malmsteen on that list
why not? he may not be the best, but he's certainly not the worst.Originally Posted by plv

top 3? i can kinda get a top five if i type fast and dont sit and second guess myself lol...
page by far my favorite.
Eddie van halen
David gilmore
stevie ray vaughn
and i'm a big pete townshend fan...
and what about Robby Krieger from the Doors? (think about spanish caravan...)
this subject is just too broad.
No love for eric johnson so far lol. Hes a close 2nd in my opinion.
1.) Bob Stinson (Replacements)
2.) Billy Zoom (X)
3.) Fletcher (Pennywise)
4.) Keith Richards (Stones)
5.) Neil Young
My choices are about my musical taste rather than their musical ability. Stinson put down some decent tracks in the studio but live he was hit or miss. None of these guys are very technical, but they really sell their lines despite their simplicity. I can't get into Van Halen, Vai, Satriani, or any of those other guys. Its all about the technical and there really isn't any soul to it at all. Its just some wanker saying "look what I can do"
lol,agreed...surpised no1 has said dimebag yet..i love pantera but i dont think he belongs with the likes of page, eddie, rhoads, and clapton...Originally Posted by quickdodge®
also joe perry is good
How can you forget Robert Johson? Every single guitarist on there would cut their left nut off just to shake his hand.
They are all talented guitarists. I'm a big Stevie Ray Vaughan fan so I'd go with him.
But I've also heard that Brad Paisley is a killer guitarist who I think is pretty good on Banjo. Not sure about the Banjo. And I've heard the same about John Mayer.
In general your truly best guitarists are the studio guitarists that you never hear of. And I love Flemenca guitarists too.
I can only assume by your comment that you arent familiar with alot of their work, while some songs are drowned by the technicality they all have several awesome songs that convey plenty of soul.Originally Posted by NawzDawg!!1!

most of you are to young and go straight for heavy metal. and don't listen for real music. most of the guys ya'll listed play 6 string compared to stevie who plays the 12 string.

but aleast we can agree on something
SRV played a 6 string guitar tuned down to EbOriginally Posted by on 3

What you are thinking of is the string gauge he played. He used a set that ranged from a low E at .058 to .012 at the high E. So when a lot of people say he "played 12 strings" they are talking about the gauge of the strings. Which is a pretty amazing feat in and of itself because all those prog-metal guys like Satriani and Vai are using .008's and .009's![]()
I agree about Keith Richards making the guitar suit him. If you look at the tab for "Wild Horses", there are about 6 different guitar tracks with 6 different tunings used. He is most famous for the "open G" tuning that uses only 5 strings, eleminating the high E.
I'm also amazed nobody mentioned Jack White.
And there hasn't been a single country player mentioned either. Merle Travis, Chet Atkins, Richard Bennett, James Burton, Duane Eddy, etc.
