    I disagree. It will merely force a re-thinking of the market. When the emissions regulations were first implemented in the 70s, there was a similar outcry. How were we ever going to get past catalytic converters, or unleaded fuel? The market adapted. It took a few years (the most powerful corvette in 1975 had about 176 hp. ) but now we have more powerful cars available than ever before.

    We are at another bridge now, as we stare into the abyss and wonder how we will have any fun with hybrid and electric cars. In a decade or two, conventional gasoline engines will seem like ancient technology. We will get there though. No new technology starts out fully optimized.
