Thread: Getting new wheels. You opinions?

Default Getting new wheels. You opinions?

Well, here in the next couple of weeks i'm looking to pick up a set of 15x7" wheels. I'm on a budget so that narrowed down the brands that I could afford. (Don't hate Dare ) I'm really looking into a set of Drags now, due to pricing. The few styles i'm looking at are the
    DR-28

    DR-26

    DR-21

Now the DR28s are my first choice, but i'm undecided on what color would look good on my white car. I know for a fact that red is out of the question, along with black. I think gold would look good, but not sure. That leaves bronze, silver & gunmetal. IDK what do you guys think?

    LOL

Why would I hate?!? I'm not a hater, I just dislike companies that copy wheel just for the fact that they takes away from the the original wheel, and that people (some) with these wheels try to bash others that are willing to buy the more expensive originals. Not because they are ugly. Just like if you get the DR28s (which are copies of my new wheels). I searched years for this particular wheel in the proper offset and bolt pattern (which is rare because they were made for fwd cars), and now all my hard work to become unique is not going to paying off because that particular style of wheel is going to become main stream. OH Well...

Anyways, throwing my opinion out of the window, I would rank the wheel for your car in this order:

    DR-21
    DR-28
    DR-26 (I wouldn't even consider these)

To an extent I agree with dare.

I think your idea of new wheels is great, HOWEVER...be ORIGINAL. Go with the DR26. Why? Dare has the real version of the 28's, JFRO has (or had) the real version of the DR21's. Go with the 26's...why are people hating on the 26's? Because they're not picture it on a white sedan, I think. Looking at the wheel...I agree, it's pretty damn ugly. But if you leave is polished (NOT CHROME OR PAINTED!) I think it would look pretty damn trick on your WHITE SEDAN. I think that's about the ONLY car that could pull off that look.

Be original. And I honestly think that wheel would look pretty badass. Trust.

SEDAN???? You have an awful memory And being orignal is out the window. If I like a wheel, but someone else has them, thats not going to stop me from getting it. If someone thinks they're being original, someone has probably already done it.

I agree with you 100%, in this world I'm pretty sure there's someone with that setup, but judging by the "tuners" in GA, I highly doubt anyone in this region has that setup.

Anyways, I done on the topic. I don't want you to think I'm trying to turn you against the DR-28 (which I am not). It's ultimately YOUR decision and you should put whatever YOU think would look good on your car. At least that's what I do.

Sorry...I don't know how I messed that up. For a hatch? 28's. 26's are questionable.

And I'm not saying "Don't copy anyone!" All I'm saying is try to do something less popular. I like seeing variety in the squad. Although...gotta admit, it would be HALF cool for squad meets if we all had identical looking cars. We'd look like a friggin' mafia coming through...except they're not '32 caddy's

I'm not really trying to be a pain, but SSR did not originate that style of wheel. They are copies of Panasport Minilites. The Minilites were, tmk, a Magnesium alloy wheel and far lighter and stronger than nearly any of the copies that are currently on the market, i.e. Konig Rewind, SSR, Drag, and maybe others.

My for the OP, I like the 21s or the 28s. And, I think bronze, gold, silver or gunmetal will look fine on a white car.

Never said SSR originated that style. That style is called "eight spoke" which was created my RS Watanabe in 1968 (unless Panasport made their minilites before 1968 which is highly unlikely) My was rims were produced for SSR (Known as Speed Star Company when my rims were released) by RS Watanabe as a "limited edition eight spoke". Even though my wheels had a Speed Star Company decal on the inner well of the wheel, you will notice my wheels has a raised RS Watanabe symbol on the face, hence the reason why they go by the name Speed Star Company (SSR) RS8s or RS Watanabe RS8s.

    {this symbol to the left}

and I circled in red the RS Watanabe symbol on my wheels.

Brian, these are my all time favorite wheels!!! I have done plenty of research on them

Oh my, you didn't have those on at the V last time. Looks awesome I'm probably going to end up with the Rotas, b/c I don't care to much for the two piece(rivet style) look. That and they make a 15x8, so I could run some fat tires.

Both would look good on your ride, but the rotas does look better (i can't believe i just typed that )

    Dare,

Your car looks great with those wheels, and I might have misread your original post. But, I did a quick search and couldn't find anything on the history of the Minilite wheel.

well slow hatch has drags now, and uproot has drags too...

never seen a problem with them first hand, although they did scare me...but, jeff rides on rota subzero's, and i believe rota was one of the wheels that were talked about in that link Ben posted up... anyway, jeff is pushin 300+hp and his wheels have held up nicely, so i would imagine as long as you're not road racing them som bietchs! that they'll be fine...

Laws of physics apply no less to him than they did you. I'm assuming he saw the points that were made as he's a frequent member...if he was a noob or hardly ever was around, I'd do just the same to him.

    Basically...you were made an example.

Actually I got Rotas not the Drags. Rota is big enough now that I think they have found out all the problems. Plenty of hondachallenge cars run Rotas or some other cheaper brands.

In the couple of years that I have been working NASA events, I haven't heard of one failure form a Rota wheel. Plenty show up at the tracks, and plenty of racecars go home with them.

I've been busy, lately. I'm taking a boat load of classes, which mean a boat load of homework and stuff to go along with. I'm also working on getting my Porsche back together so that I can drive it a little and sell it (damn thing's too expensive to fix). And by back together, I mean finish resealing the engine, putting it back in the car, and rebuilding the power steering rack. I'm almost done resealing the engine; I got the head back on today after replacing the valve stem seals. Next is to get the cam carrier on and all the timing belt stuff. I still need to swap transmissions in the Honda, too.

I'd like to make it down sometime for WW, but I don't know if I'll be able to. My plate is rather full at the moment.
