Well I decided not to keep the salvage and just cash it all in - New car = RSX Type S.
It's a lot of fun, good gas mileage and the K20 engine in phenomenal! Plenty of interior room for a small guy like me, and I love the hatch design. Leather and climate control FTW.
Pictures :
And the best part! Fits way better than the retard setup I had laying it across my passenger seat set all the way back in the accord :
And here's my opinion for those who care :
RSX Pros:
- Well appointed/ good looking interior
- Leather
- Climate control
- Bose stereo
- small diameter 3 spoke steering wheel
- Red back-lit gauges
- Good looking alloy wheels
- Hatch utility
- Halogen headlamps that actually have good light output/spread
- 6 speeds
- K20 engine is art - Feels like more than 141 ft-lbs of torque, pulls through RPM's smooth, and makes lots of power even up to redline. I can see why reflash supports up to 8,700 rpm - engine still pulls past stock redline.
Cons:
- Actually kind of tall - can feel the weight a little higher up
- I don't know much about the geometric suspension differences with MacPherson strut vs. Double wishbone - But the Prelude felt much more solid in turns/handling
- Loooong rake of front windshield - I don't like the feeling of a ton of windshield in front of driver.
Prelude Pros:
- Excellent handling / SH with ATTS was a wonderful feeling certainly takes out RSX
- Old school VTEC kick was a lot of fun
- Good interior insulation = quiet ride
- 2.2L displacement provided more torque
- Leather steering wheel
- Very comfy cloth seats with nice bolsters
- My favorite OEM Honda wheels.
- Gauge cluster looks good/classic dials and the Amber backlight looks great.
- Long hood with little rake to the winshield - gives a better view of the road/front of car.
Cons:
- Literally inhaled Oil, Rear bumper was black in a couple weeks.
- Interior is boring and bland. It's simple which I appreciate, but too plain.
- VTEC power delivery on H22's feels like it makes nothing below 5,200 and EVERYTHING above - too much off/on, I found myself caught out of VTEC a lot.
- Apparently the ATTS unit is prone to failure and expensive to repair - It's definitely inconvenient if you do your own maintenance.
- Actually poor gas mileage, especially if you drive with any sense of passion at all.
- Mine had rattles/hum sounds?
- I don't like the older, larger diameter 4 spoke Honda steering wheels.
- IMO even if you run the engine past redline, it doesn't feel like it still makes consistent power, seems to be done at about 7,000.
- Very small. Low roof line, small cabin area means you don't take rear seat passengers, and the trunk is pathetic lol.
