Default Prelude SH. With a twist..

    What's up IA

So - I find this pristine looking 2001 Prelude SH for sale on CL. It looks great and when I go to check it out drives even better! I get it checked out by my mechanic and it's in near perfect shape! Done deal - MINE.

The best part is - ABSOLUTELY stock! Stock air filter, wheels, header, exhaust, shocks and springs! Exactly how I want it! I'm tired of being dropped.

Well, SH's aren't really all that common and this one is pretty nice so I thought I'd share some pics.

(The "twist" is in post #2)

    On to PICS!

    Insurance declares total loss.

But I want yall's opinion - Should I take $1,500 for the car? or Should I part it out?

Do people buy H22's with high mileage? One thing to remember is all the SH parts that can be salvaged from this car.. The front end is untouched - car still starts and purrs @ idle.

Keep that car. I hate that happened to you but, it's way more profitable if you part it out.

I'd say it really depends on how much you're willing to put into it. You'd probably get a decent monetary return on the parts but I'd question whether or not it was worth the wrench time taking everything off the car and the footwork to sell it all... or installing on another if that's the way you're leaning.

If it were me, I'd probably let that car go. But then again i have zero interest in hondas...

Yea thx man - Actually let me make it clear : I'm getting an insurance settlement for the full market value of the car. Now if I choose to keep the salvage vehicle they take $1,500 off the check they hand me.

I'm basically asking if I could part this out for more than $1,500 you know what I mean?

yes if you have a place to store, those h22s are SH only, i know, so if someone has an SH with a bad motor they can only use an h22 out of an SH (super handling) model, most people opt to change motor and tranny like i did, and really i hate SH models now, they are a PITA to work on, for a atts concept that's not even worth it, you better off putting lsd in a regular tranny than having that atts unit, if i had a choice of another bb6 i would go with a base model, but back to the question, i would proly say F*ck it, take the money and be done with it, if it has high miles i dont think you will get much out of the engine/tranny, the rest of the body seems straight but it may sit for a long time. If it was a civic/integra it would be worth it cause people on IA eat those up

Only thing I can say is if this car is all stock then it does NOT have a header.

id say let it go. You could make more but its not worth the time. You can use the motor in any prelude but if its a base they have to make an adapter plate for the halfshaft. The transmission in SH only. You would make a lot off the other stuff. You would nickel and dime your way up.

    front end= 300
    doors=200
    steering wheel= 50
    seats= 150
    full swap = 1500
total amount of this incredibly rough estimate = 2200
you can probably make more by selling misc items. if you have a garage then do it.
add in carpet, headlights, tail light, center console, trim pieces, two front rims, 5 lug spindles. you can probably make 3000 if you sit on it for a while. you just need to decide if it's worth your time.

as scotsman said, take the money, and then see where its going and buy it back. I bet you could buy it back for less than $1500 if its wrecked, then part it out. Profitallovertheplace.

I agree with this. But if you were to sell it to an outside party, definitely ask for more than the $1,500.

I think I may be at this point - I don't really have the knowledge or tools to remove all the parts.

Not sure they're gonna go for that - Car is at insurance's lot and it's either I take it for $1,500 or they keep it. I would hook you up if I had it though, bought the tires last week. They have 500 miles on them.

To the guy who rear-ended you..... What a moron. At least he didn't run and had to deal with the consequences of his actions. I always hate to see this kind of threads, because it means Ludes are getting more and more rare.... And that makes me sad. Let the insurance keep it. Are you going to try and find another one?

Yea I think I'll let them keep it :/ But I'm trying to decide what car to get next - I only buy cars in full so used market for me.

Here's what I'm considering in order of preference:
    - EP3 Civic Si Hatch
    - RSX Type S
    - Another 5th gen prelude
    - Lexus IS 300

Only trick is I will only buy manual transmission so IS 300's are insane rare in 5 speed.

No lol, insurance will let me buy the salvage vehicle back for $1,500 - They've already compensated me for the FMV of the prelude.

Well I decided not to keep the salvage and just cash it all in - New car = RSX Type S.

It's a lot of fun, good gas mileage and the K20 engine in phenomenal! Plenty of interior room for a small guy like me, and I love the hatch design. Leather and climate control FTW.

    Pictures :

And the best part! Fits way better than the retard setup I had laying it across my passenger seat set all the way back in the accord :

And here's my opinion for those who care :
    RSX Pros:
    - Well appointed/ good looking interior
    - Leather
    - Climate control
    - Bose stereo
    - small diameter 3 spoke steering wheel
    - Red back-lit gauges
    - Good looking alloy wheels
    - Hatch utility
    - Halogen headlamps that actually have good light output/spread
    - 6 speeds
    - K20 engine is art - Feels like more than 141 ft-lbs of torque, pulls through RPM's smooth, and makes lots of power even up to redline. I can see why reflash supports up to 8,700 rpm - engine still pulls past stock redline.

    Cons:
    - Actually kind of tall - can feel the weight a little higher up
    - I don't know much about the geometric suspension differences with MacPherson strut vs. Double wishbone - But the Prelude felt much more solid in turns/handling
    - Loooong rake of front windshield - I don't like the feeling of a ton of windshield in front of driver.

    Prelude Pros:
    - Excellent handling / SH with ATTS was a wonderful feeling certainly takes out RSX
    - Old school VTEC kick was a lot of fun
    - Good interior insulation = quiet ride
    - 2.2L displacement provided more torque
    - Leather steering wheel
    - Very comfy cloth seats with nice bolsters
    - My favorite OEM Honda wheels.
    - Gauge cluster looks good/classic dials and the Amber backlight looks great.
    - Long hood with little rake to the winshield - gives a better view of the road/front of car.

    Cons:
    - Literally inhaled Oil, Rear bumper was black in a couple weeks.
    - Interior is boring and bland. It's simple which I appreciate, but too plain.
    - VTEC power delivery on H22's feels like it makes nothing below 5,200 and EVERYTHING above - too much off/on, I found myself caught out of VTEC a lot.
    - Apparently the ATTS unit is prone to failure and expensive to repair - It's definitely inconvenient if you do your own maintenance.
    - Actually poor gas mileage, especially if you drive with any sense of passion at all.
    - Mine had rattles/hum sounds?
    - I don't like the older, larger diameter 4 spoke Honda steering wheels.
    - IMO even if you run the engine past redline, it doesn't feel like it still makes consistent power, seems to be done at about 7,000.
    - Very small. Low roof line, small cabin area means you don't take rear seat passengers, and the trunk is pathetic lol.

Biggest pro for the rsx is that it doesn't look like an accordion.
