yea i have yet to see an impressive h22....ever....

The na cars came with the 5sfe which I believe is a single cam motor. I dont know if the computers are compatible. I would guess not without some serious tuning. The good off the 94s: brakes, wheels, radio, other suspension etc. There is a thread on mr2.com about the differences. I need a ac/heat control box if he is parting it out.... you have a pm on the turbo stuff.

Speaking of the mr2controls, I just purchased a Hydra Nemesis to use on my car. Also purchased a PT 60/65 Dual ball bearing and a turbosmart 38mm wastegate.

dang Bowen..not giving me a chance to answer any questions lol..
definately check out mr2oc.com over mr2.com...mr2.com i usually where all the imature idiots go that got kicked off of mr2oc for saying something stupid.
and the 5sfe was a dohc that doesnt hold a candle to the 3sgte..i
If i was gonna track the two i would go with a v6camry engine and supercharge it...if i was just goin for reliable comfortable fun on the weekends i would get a gen 3 and if i was gonna go for wild, raw dangerous power i would probably just build the crap out of a gen2 and upgrade to a bigger turbo.
Ime jeaous of you..you have such a nice base to start with.. i would sell my lil bro into slavery for that IM

as far as the valve cover it looks like the holes for the throttle body stay have been welded shut. I like that..makes it look clean imo

on the 1st pic of the plugs the square black one goes to the afm and it seems like its missing the wire clamp that comes on it..the grey one looks like it goes to one of the fuel injectors...
The pic below that : the blue one looks like it goes to the boost pressure sensor.. the brown one to the egr and the black one to the tps located on the throttle body. and the small grey one looks like it connects to a ground wire.
ille look at my car tommorow just to make sure.
Juice? What's that? I want some of that purple stuff

Haha nice to hear from you Roderick. More info. on 1MZ-FE swap here:

Awesome but expensive. Brad Bedell won the Sport Compact Car USCC in '04 with this setup.

No they haven't. They're right there between the #2 and #3 spark plug holes.

The first one looks too small to be the AFM connector. Look at his hand compared to it. And I think the blue one is the T-VSV or T-VIS or something else mounted to that plate under the IM. The boost pressure sensor (and corresponding connector) is black and mounted to the bulkhead next to the daignostic ports. I think you're right about the rest though.

Ok great info. I dont have the AFM (air flow meter???) for my car. However, I do have a hydra nemesis on the way. I need to figure out what kind of sensor it will use. The car it came off of did not use the AFM.

Yeah, AFM stands for Air Flow Meter. You will not want or need to use the AFM with the Hydra. MAP is the way to go.

Ok thats what I was thinking. Do most guys use a GM MAP sensory or a toyota one?

So the big question is: What kind of map sensor did the cars use? I know the 91 92 cars were draw through maf correct? Then in 93 they went to a SD (speed density) type setup with some type of manifold pressure sensor? Fill me in lol.

All USDM MR2s have an AFM. No MAF or MAP or speed density or anything else. They all use the same AFM. Pretty sure the manifold pressure sensor on the USDM cars is just for fuel cut. It has nothing to do with AFRs or fuel maps or anything having to do with air metering. It's all done by the (restrictive) AFM. Looks like this:

The Gen 3 3S-GTE that came in the 94-99 JDM (and I think European) MR2s used MAP sensors (Gen 3 refers to the engine's generation, not the chassis. The USDM cars all have Gen 2s stock). That's one of the advantages of the Gen 3. Also an advantage of using a standalone computer.

Edit: Here are some websites I had in my favorites talking about the 3S-GTE. I think they have some good info:

hey whats up bowen..yeah i think your right about the blue one bein for the tvis..the black one is bothering me. i know i have unplugged it several times..man looking at those wires bring back bad memories right?
also its actually cheaper to go v6 than turbo minus the supercharger..the 1mzfe is alot cheaper than the 3sgte. and all of the 1mzfe parts you need for the swap are alot cheaper than their 3sgte counterparts...just thougth i would correct the correctotron
i think one of the greatest things about the standalone is getting rid of that afm. The afm seems to be extremely tempramental.i know some people are running gm map sensors with fcons..

Ha! I never got the pleasure of wondering about the wiring in your car so much, but I do remember sifting through all the bolts on the garage floor looking for the right ones to re-mate your transmission... And that was the night I got those two tickets :[ Good times, good times...

Made good progress today. Did some wiring and made my way through the factory engine harness guide. Also polished the manifold.

SFP manifold, Precision 60/65 DBB, turbosmart ultra gate.

hey...that MR2 looks like it'll be a monster!!!! Lets be sure to meet up when you're done. Here's a few shots of mine.
btw, your intake is an RMR intake manifold without the markings like mine.

Call Eric Hux if you run into trouble. He moved to Alabama so he's not too far. He installed the standalone on my car a few months ago.
