Do we really need multiple political parties in this country nowadays? Traditionally countries are much stronger when the government is streamlined with one party.
Discuss and I'll be back later with my opinion.

Come on, 11 views and no replies. I was hoping to start a nice debate and am sick of hearing everybody bitching about how this country is going to go to shit now that another party is controlling Congress.
I say that multiple parties are great in this day and age. The role of political parties has changed over the last century and most people dont vote along party lines anymore (most vote over issues instead). I think having a couple strong political parties here in the US is much better than elsewhere in the world where there are many different political parties and nobody can get a majority of the population to vote in their favor.
If we're going to give all of our rights and liberties away to one political party then we're just as stupid as the German people in the 1930s. Our country was built up with a system of checks and balances to keep any single branch from gaining too much power but this system tends to fail when a single party controls each branch (see Bush's gain in power and our loss of civil liberties immediately following 9/11).

Check and balances, im not sure how well that would go with 1 and only 1 party?!?!
"The 1911 is a collection of subsystems that must work together. Each part must be prepared and fit properly not only in and of itself, but also with regard to the other parts with which it must operate for the gun to function and appear as desired."
Just read your second post. Between that and your first post, its sounds like two different people.

I was joking in the first post. One party systems work well in streamlining the government process at the expense of personal liberties, see Nazi Germany or the developing African nations over the last 60 years (Mobutu's regime, etc). Its very easy to accomplish stuff when you dont spend time debating topics in a democratic fashion, but thats just stating the obvious. Many of the third world politicians stress political unity for means of international advancement when really they are driven by greed and power lust.Originally Posted by Danny

I don't really go by political parties. I just vote on policies. I don't consider myself in one party or another... Just depends on the person and how the handle things. Theres so many different views on things and so many different ways to handle things i don't see how anyone can say they are in one party or another unless they are just conforming to the masses to be accepted somewhere...

please elaborate, I'm on the edge of my seat.
btw: I agree on a different party, but what kind I probally wouldn't![]()
i can understand this to a point... i think if politicians worried more about issues then who they stand for then it would seem we wouldn't even have parties...
take this election: Republicans didn't have anything to brag about they were more worried about keeping their jobs over broken promises, Democrats wanted to point fingesrs, Independents talk the issues but noone cares![]()
Mainly talking about the Patriot Act. After 9/11 hysteria was rampant and the Reps had the congress majority so they backed the president on everything.Originally Posted by {X}Echo419

Right on. Someone who votes only one party, or only this party, or only that party, is blind and ignorant, is part of the reason our contry is in shambles today. We need MORE than the 2-party system. That, or we need to abolish political party's altogether, and everybody be an independant candidate.Originally Posted by Flip

Reps when I can
Wouldnt the democratic process just be reduced to a pissing contest if there was no coalitions?Originally Posted by kendogg
I think we need a strong third party but not abolish all parties. I dont think much would be accomplished if all politicians were independents; political parties have their own agendas and the individual politicians generally go along with them.

this country is NOT a "Democracy" and never was intended to be. this is a Republic. why do people insist on calling it a democracy?Originally Posted by GTScoob
