Come on, 11 views and no replies. I was hoping to start a nice debate and am sick of hearing everybody bitching about how this country is going to go to shit now that another party is controlling Congress.

I say that multiple parties are great in this day and age. The role of political parties has changed over the last century and most people dont vote along party lines anymore (most vote over issues instead). I think having a couple strong political parties here in the US is much better than elsewhere in the world where there are many different political parties and nobody can get a majority of the population to vote in their favor.

If we're going to give all of our rights and liberties away to one political party then we're just as stupid as the German people in the 1930s. Our country was built up with a system of checks and balances to keep any single branch from gaining too much power but this system tends to fail when a single party controls each branch (see Bush's gain in power and our loss of civil liberties immediately following 9/11).
