[QUOTE=Lucky Dawg]ofcourse Racism is alive, don't get all preachy on me.[/QOUTE]

Not trying to get preachy with you at all. That's not my place, it was just coming off as if you were saying that Racism was yesteryear.

And no i'm not a minority, i'm white down the line, Mom was raised in Ireland, and my dad's side is all farmer's from alabama.

I'm saying most white people i know will crack some jokes but its not nearly as bad as it used to be. I know just as many if not more minorities are just as racist towards white people, but white people can't pull the race card can we? because thats racist.
You're right it's not as bad as it used to be, things have come a long way indeed. And I'll gladly agree that on the flipside there are minorities that use it a excuse for thier own shortcomings but there is a percentage that are held down, sadly enough, by the color of their skin, sexual preference, religious creed...etc.

Thats what makes me sick when someone claims i don't like black people because i hate obama
If you don't like Obama, that's your opinion and you're more than happy to have it. I just wanted to get a better understand of how the other side sees things in terms of racism...it just so happened that it happened in a political thread.

Thank you for clarifying that point.

Well my family has a long Jewish back ground and, i dont know if you've heard, but Jewish people have had it pretty bad too. But i'm not looking at Germans with a negative eye. I feel if i do that, it only makes things worse.
Yeah, I've heard...the last thing I want to do is get into a pissing contest about who's had it the worst.

You shouldn't concern yourself with the media. I feel like i am more of a republican but i don't watch too much fox news. I like to get straight facts and make my opinions that way.
Reps for you, sir. Nice to know I have a conversation without people getting too sensitive or overly defensive.

anyway you spin it though whether you are watching Fox News or NBC...

there is ALWAYS going to be a bias unless you witnessed something for yourself first hand. Books, Movies, TV, Magazines, The internet, anything. Not really a bad thing if you can shift through it and compare multiple sources

Abrams is famous for twisting things and even if he was talking about Michelle Obama in a negative way, i could care less because i don't respect his journalism.
i stated facts, NOT OPINION. never once did i describe "white people's" thinking...you took it that way. you OBVIOUSLY don't get why i said what i said, so do you not understand elections and politics either? i just don't think A LOT of your points make any sense. some of them seem so blatently ridiculous, it's not even funny. just educate yourself...it'll end up working out for you.

what does post count have to do with anything? this is EXACTLY what this thread is about. people like you, who have no logical reasoning skills, and turns a battle of opinions into something personal. i told that man to do the same thing he told me to do; he claims i'm not educated when it comes to politics and voting, and i told him to continue educating himself in the same field. i wish it were that easy for you, but it's starting to seem like a lost cause. i tell you what, i'll have my bleach on tuesday, i'll have a glass or two for you also. do you want ice?

it wasn't a question as to whether you can vote. it was guidance...from a man to a boy. i can get you an entire list of other accomplishments you must achieve in order to become a man, lmk. also, you shoud do a search...there's a topic that has the term "ellipsis" in it. study it, learn it, use it. nah, you didn't get anyone's panties in a wad. i think your mommy forgot to tell you to take off your sunday dress, before you came on the net to play.

Well Im coming in alittle late here but better late than never

I dont think Mcain can be held to the same standard as her. Mainly because Mcain was a POW. I can completely agree with his statment. Alot of us were born here in the US. Freedom is given to us but for those who have joined a branch of the Military and been to other Countrys have seen how good we have it. To then become a POW I can see how a new found love for the US would come about. I love my Country since I new what it was. Theres things I dont agree with but it doesnt make me hate it. Thats a pretty shitty thing for her to say now that I think about.

He didnt say a new found love, he said he didn't love his country.

Tony, you picked a bad example to compare. I think your one of very few that sees a problem with that statement. I felt patriotic hearing it.

I feel the point of your thread is to give everyone a fair view on what people say.

    1. I heard from Michelle (and after further review thanx to this thread) i feel the same way i did about her opinion even with all that has been written.

    2. I feel like McCain has nothing to be ashamed of with his statement. There is no law that says you cant have your own opinion. McCain grew to a person that really found what America represents and it was this that made him love it.

    3. Imagine if Obama were to say the same thing, i would treat it the same way i am McCain, because people change and their believes change.

We are humans, we do that.

Then why was it wrong for Michelle Obama to say for the first time in her adult life she is really proud of her country?

if being a POW gives you a leg up on things you can say about this country, then maybe the obamas should be held to the same standards. how many different cultures/races were prisoners right here in this very country? asians...native americans...african americans...AND WOMEN. these groups at some point had to FIGHT for freedom, just like our beloved military does for us. did anyone think about the fact that maybe michelle obama FELT like a POW? think about it like this (this is what i hate about people calling things "the race card"), just 40 years ago, blacks were regarded as a lesser people...not being able to share water fountains in some areas, and specific riding positions on buses, their votes only counted as 2/3...and that's not even touching on the women's rights issues. now that's just 40 years ago...do you not think maybe she witnessed some of this stuff first hand? so for her to finally be proud at america for getting to a major turning point is very well justified. we are at a point where RACE AND SEX were no longer an issue amongst the MASSES. i think we should ALL feel the same way she feels, finally being proud of this country. even though hilary didn't make it, it's still an achievement for this country and i bet she's finally proud too.

    it's just food for thought...

+1 for this. It doesn't take much time browsing on IA to see that people still have the capacity to hate. Every other post I see some kind of hate for Muslims and gays. Don't think for a minute that racism is over with Just because it is currently not fashionable to express racism does not mean that that racist hate does not exist

Appreciating something for what it is (McCain) and liking something because it will hopefully change to the view you want of it (Michelle Obama) are two very different things.

You seem intelligent Tony, i don't understand how you don't see the difference, one involves appreciating something in its present state and the other involves molding it to what you want it to be.

    its really a simple concept.

let's say you're right, and she is now proud of this country for getting her closer to that goal....is that still wrong? i bet you were more proud of this country when you got your stimulus check this year right? i know i was! were we wrong for that? how many presidents do you think were more proud of their country for being elected "I'M PROUD OF MY AMERICAN PEOPLE". i just think people are intentionally taking what she said the wrong way. i SERIOUSLY doubt that she FINALLY was proud of her country, just like i SERIOUSLY doubt that mccain FINALLY fell in love with his country.

No being a American gives you a pass to say whatever you want. Then you have to face the press on how they will interpit (sp) it. Mcain has more ground to stand on with a comment like that than Michelle. He has been in other countries, seen whats its like from a prisoners stand point (for 6 years). Michelle grew up in Chicago. She went to average schools and lived in the average house. She later went on to Princeton and Harvard Law. If she grew up in any other country, I doubt she would have had the opportunity to do what she has done here. She is a very smart woman but how can you say something like that about a country that has given her so much?

to the 1st bold: Probably a lot back in the day when the average person knew as much about politics as the brick laying next to you. No internet and no national news source made that kind of hard to educate them on politics.

to the 2nd bold: She said it, not me or you. So if you want to assume that then you are putting words in their mouths.

I think me and the person you quoted both have thought for ourselves.

Wouldn't not thinking for yourself constitute the side agreeing with what the news station said?

Any way you want to twist this it will be contradictory, because everything you know about this topic has gotten to you through some kind of news outlet. I mean unless you know the candidates personally, which i highly doubt

Because again, it took McCain being captured and held as a POW to fully make him love and appreciate his country, I'm sure before that he just took for granted all the freedom and opportunities his country allowed him just for being born on this side of the Atlantic.

Mrs. Obama on the other hand is only proud "for the first time in her life" because her husband is moving closer (and her by association) to one of the most powerful positions in the world. I wonder if she would be un-proud if they lost the bid for the white house?

If the comments made by both parties were on par with each other situation wise, then I agree both should be viewed and treated the same. However saying that McCain's comments about his changing view and love for a country that came about due to his time as a POW is no where even close to being on the same lvl as off the cuff comments made by Obama's wife about her feelings on america, while she is 100% safe and sound in that same country she was never proud of until that moment.
