small turbo is definately way to go if your hitting some twisties and want peak power for the lower rpm's... but K03 we speak of is a vw/audi thing... your not going to get that on your car... one turbo i have seen similiar to size i think was the stock vr4 turbo (i think that was it ) 220whp/285lbs @ 3500 makes a fun little car to toss in the mnt's \/

A stock VR4 turbo is a TD04 9b. Its a tiny little thing, It could be good for 220 whp, but thats approaching its limits, if not a little past.

I put down around 400-ish WHP on race gas with 2 of them @ 18 psi (which is arguably peak efficiency for them) But that was not on the dyno, simply a guestimate based on my traps vs weight.

I have a few lying around my garage if anyone wants one.. LOL

    heh, yea.. wrong VR4..

    I have a 14b lying around too

I think he may be better off with a small 16g over a 14b for what he wants though.

fastest spooling turbo I know of would be something like a paxton or vortech

BTW, turbos+fwd+auto-x don't mix. I hope you have an awd 4g63 turbo car.

Either go n/a or supercharged. Turbo will just make your times worse, unless you are a super-talented and smooth driver.

    Mazda miata FTW for YOU!!

    I beg to differ

When I would go to SCCA events every weekend, I would usually place in the top 10% of cars out there. Which I don't think is bad for FWD TT.

But then again, my car is built for sharp turns. I have everything but the coilovers. Including the tires/drivetran upgrades.

**EDIT** Of course now that I have considerably larger turbos, I don't believe I would do as well now as I used to.. At least not until I do the AWD conversion.

ya they are tiny its probably the only stock turbo smaller then a ko3 i've seen. well for what he is looking for 220whp would be great, 400whp is just way too much for shit like that... thats why you see 3 series blazing by porsches in the turns

I would be fully spooled by 3600 rpm. Those turbos with a 10:1 compression engine were the shit for autoX and tight corners. of course I only ran 12 psi on pump gas when I would autoX.
