Default Is a B16b worth it?

I drive a 93 civic cx hatch, and I plan on using my income tax for a B16 swap. I want a b16 because I like high revs. A friend of mine recommended this site www.hmotorsonline.com for the engine swap. They sell the B16a for $2250.00 and the B16b for $3850.00. That to me is a big difference in price for 15hp and a 600 rpm increase to the redline. Does anyone think the B16b is worth it? Keep in mind I dont want a LS/VTEC or any kind of B18.

well if you plan on building the b16, i would just get the b16a. because if your going to build the motor for all motor or even boost im sure you'll be able to rev higher and im sure your going to be making more than +15hp.. b16a is what i swaped into my ex

If you want to be unique then go for it, because the ctr motor is one kick ass motor, drove one before thats why, but then again you can just buy a B16 for around $800 or so and put CTR internals in it which would be the same but yet cheaper.

A couple of my friends have suggested that I save for a couple months to get the ctr motor. I would love to be that unique. They also made me think about how much the head work might cost just to get the b16A to the level of a b16B. If headwork is as expensive as they say it is, I will be better off paying the extra fo a B16B. I was also wandering if anyone knew of any other reliable engine sites I could order from, just to compare prices really.

Cause torque is what moves you down the road, horsepower is a mesurment of torque in a certian rpm. The more torque you have the more horsepower you have. B16= garbage. Plain and simple, it was cool 7 years ago, but if you want to run 15s for ever go ahead and buy it. :jerkit:

Thanks for your opinions guys. After reading posts and recieving a much larger tax refund than I expected, I've decided to drop a GSR engine in the eg. I was stuck on the B16b, and even considered a turbo D15b setup. I decided I wanted the engine that left me with the most options, and the B18C seems to leave me with many options

my friend has an ITR and he hits 10k all day long. he runs mid to high 13s and he only has a few mods.but yes, a GSR or ITR is your best bet. this might help you a little http://www.hondaforums.com/lofiversi...php/t5857.html

    I'm with him.

B18C1 is a great way to go, if you can't afford a B18C5, which I guess, really wouldn't be worth the price increase anyways.

the C1's are fairly stable for turbo, from what I've heard/been told...C5's....yeah, sure, if you have a butt ton of money.

yeh, but if you plan to go boosted you're wasting your money on getting a b18c5 because thats a good all motor but for boost its just a waste, best bet is to go with a b18c/c1 if you want boost, if not they are both good options to go with. But I myself prefer all motor, just really depends on your plans for it. If you really wanna go cheaper then build a ls/vtec for around $1200 or get a B16 for about $800 and put ctr internals and it'll run about the same. But then again a b18c1 w/ctr internals would run even better because of the compression ratio, the ctr exhaust cam and the gsr are the same so you wouldn't have to change that, but the only problem that you might encounter is the clearance from the pistons/head, so I guess pr3 (b16) would be good for the money. Do some research on honda-tech and you should be able to find your answer.

I would personally get a b18c1 but i could see why he would get a b16, it is more reliable.

B16B means CTR motor means LSD tranny. That is a big part of the higher price.

Decide what you want to do with the car. What are you final goals and then go from there. If you want a fun daily and use it for autocross or mountain runs then get the LSD tranny. If you want a highway car or drag start with the B18C. If you want turbo and are on a budget then LS turbo FTW. Let me know we can help you decide. Later.

well...if you end up getting lucky and purchase a b16 like the one i did that lays down 20+ more whp stock then a normal b16...more whp then a CTR and GSR motor and in ITR territory for the price of a b16 id say get one...but i got EXTREMELY lucky to get the motor i got! It for sure has internals of some type i guess b/c 167whp for a stock b16 wasnt right..lol...we was talking about it over on Importlounge.

B16B if you got it like that, it is a bit pricey but if I was going to spend around 4k for that then you mine as well go get you a JDM B18C (ITR) and get a little more bang for the buck. Of course you can just make one if you really want one. Just get a B16a and put CTR internals in it. The PR3 head is identical, just need a mild port and polish job with CTR cams OR '00 ITR cams because they are the same.
