Handle, as in slalom speed, lateral grip, steering feel, neutral balance? S2000. Fastest around a track? Cobra, it has a huge power difference and its handling isn't bad,. But the question was "handle better", not "win in a race".

I would put my money on the cobra, I just sold my 04 cobra 8 months ago and they DO handle ALOT better than what people give them credit for. Plus the extra power it has over the s2k would just be to much for the s2k, and thats assuming that the cobra isnt pullied. Its hard to find a Terminator with the stock blower pulley now-a-days!

Depends on the track, and the length of the straights. In the turns the S2K should kill the cobra because of it's 50/50 weight distribution. We had a new Mustang GT at one of our S2000 track days, and it couldn't even hang with stock miatas. Not even close. I realize there is a little HP in the GT and Cobra, but HP is not everything. You have to think about HP to weight ratio.

weight distribution means nothing. and your new mustang GT driver was new to the car. you cant compare vehicles with different drivers. unless you compare the vehicle and the driver.

seeing as a s2k has a 50/50 and a 04 cobra has 53/47 and the new mustang has also 50/50. weight distribution is null in this argument.

53/47 is not as close to 50/50 as it looks on paper. That said, cobra would win on most tracks.

my G is 53/47 350z are 53/47. they handle just fine. many performance cars are slight nose heavy to help in braking and turning. and when they accelerate weight transfers to the rear getting it to the 50/50 that everyone craves.

I'm not saying that front-biased can't handle, but really most performance cars try to have 50/50 with even higher performance cars leaning more towards 40/60 ish. You just don't want too much weight on the front when diving in to a turn, unless you like understeering.

    Blast from the past?

We know the Cobra is faster, we've decided that, only ricers think otherwise.

This question is totally and entirely impossible to answer. An S2k will mongoose the Cobra around an AutoX track. The Cobra will smoke the S2k at Road Atlanta.

So you're saying when they are put to the test in REAL racing, the Cobra will win.

    Cobra = IRS + control arms + strut/springs + full K-member and A-arms = one fucking hell of a corner carver!

Plus more power, better looks and cheaper insurance than a s2k.

But on the one hand if the Cobra even Corbra R is such a dominating car why don't you see them do any time attack series?

cobra r is a purpose built track car. but on the same note where talking in general terms, if someone had $100-200k to build a track car, then yeah cobra and s2k are not even in the running!

Because domestics arent as marketable to the young tuner crowd. Not yet anyways. You still see Cobalts and other pocket racers, but generally speaking, the import crowds hate Mustangs even though they would dominate a lot of the actual events they compete in. In my opinion... what do I know though...

Time Attacks and Gymkhana's could see a rise in domestics though I think and it would be refreshing to see something other than the typical EVO/WRX/S2K's out there.

That looks like an old Bondurant school car.

As for Mustangs in time attack, you don't see them because time attack is for ricers, time trials is the same thing but less JDM of a name, Mustangs run there as well as numerous road race classes. There are classes even FOR Mustangs.

The stupidity in this thread amazes me.

from my understanding, the price and rarity of the Cobra R kind of hamper it's trips to Time Attack series. The only Cobra R that I know the whereabouts of, it just sits in a garage... had a layer of dust on it last time I saw it.

I don't know how it all works but, a car tuner can buy a 40k+ NSX they can defenitely afford this. But, I agree with Nemesis about appealing to the younger tuner crowd.

Well I know I voted S2K, because it says which HANDLES better, the S2K is nimble, tiny, solid, it HANDLES better.

However I am on the Cobras side for anything else around a track or whatever else.

So is an MR2, but are you really telling me that you would have voted the same way if that were an option?
