It does perform better, the 95-99 Maximas and the 00-01 Maximas are the same engine, the only reason why the 00-01 Maximas are rated at 222hp, and the 95-99s are rated at 190hp is b/c of the intake. That is the only difference between the engines. Your car will run fine, actually better. And after that raise the rev limit to take advantage of the new Varible intake and top end power.
