you CANNOT legalize a skyline in the us. the only way ive seen it done recently is through a company called kaizo, and they ship it here with no engine/drivetrain so it can be registered as a kit car. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

WRONG. there are plenty of people driving LEGAL skylinesOriginally Posted by Thighs
and how many of these were ACTUALLY IMPORTED over the past year or so? not many. it used to be easier to get away with it, but now alot of the cars that were registered using loopholes and other semi-legal methods are being seized. most commonly r34s.Originally Posted by oneSLOWex

Not true, the feds can seize a skyline and crush it anytime...no such thing as a legal r34 in this country, nor r33 for that matter.Originally Posted by oneSLOWex
Then how can they be titled and insured and all that?Originally Posted by NissanTun3r
I'm not going into detail as there is a lot of info about this on the web, but just because a skyline is legal on the county/state level doesn't mean it's legal...Originally Posted by oneSLOWex

I would not worry about this hassle, I thought about it myself but it would be much too time consuming and it simply isn't cost effective. For the price you'd end up paying to have a car brought over with everything said and done you could probably buy and audi r8, which is fine by me...
there is no such thing as a FEDERALLY legalized skyline.Originally Posted by oneSLOWex
No there isn't. The Skyline is FEDERALLY illegal even if you have it tagged and insured by the state. There is a small handful of R33's that are 100% legal that went through the process via Motorex, then 17 of them were NOT put to the required standards and the DOT caught on. Not only did they do that but they were also misrepresenting the R34 as the R33 and eventually their DOT registration to convert cars was revoked.Originally Posted by oneSLOWex
Ironically the DOT, EPA, and NHTSA override the state...imagine that, the federal government overrules the state. The Skyline is on the federal DO NOT import list. It's only a matter of time before each Skyline owner is caught. They have been repossessed by US customs before and they will continue cracking down.

I'm still trying to get all the low down on Kaizo's kit car approach.

If you have $65k to drop down on a R34 shell then call them and ask for Daryl. They are processing the Skyline unibody just like the Noble, Cobra's, and Ariel Atoms that were imported from Canada. It gets a VIN plate like a home built trailer and a VIN assigned by the DOT...you then put whatever power and drivetrain in it that you want.
