I have friends with Tundra's that tow and they work great until you start adding more weight. For towing a car, and a set of wheels and tires and a few tools they get the job done well. Start adding enclosed trailors, 20+ feet long etc. etc. and you'll need a Diesel or wish you had one.
I'd seriously consider getting a Diesel though. With some minor modifcations you can't even feel a car back there and they get great mileage.
That's what I'm talking about! Damn, if I didn't need it for a some what daily I would buy that monster! I even like the black. Thanks for the help Tracy. I'm looking into some kind of diesel based on what I have been reading in here... minus the garbage bickering.... I won't be using a enclosed, as much as I would like to have one. The Sequoia is looking better and better as well.Originally Posted by Tracy

A Dodge... seriously? I work pretty closely to the big 3 and from what I understand they are discontinuing their truck line? I could be wrong but I know for sure they are not molding parts for them!Originally Posted by Tracy

Well if you talk about it like that, IDK. Honestly, I haven't been keeping up with all of that and we usually buy used anyways. I just know HP, towing capacity and amenities wise, we would like to have a Dodge.Originally Posted by Evolunchbox

Like I already said, I would go with dually if you can at all help it (even if it is a single car, open trailer). It makes for a much better towing experience. Especially if you are getting a tag along trailer. Trust me, when you have been racing all day and you haven't slept in 3 days (1 day to get there, 1 day racing and 1 day getting home), you want to have the least amount of stress while driving with a trailer.
This is the part that REALLY pushes me to get a dually! I 100% agree with you and not having anything more to worry about after the race and having a couple hundred miles in front of you..lol Plus I am new to towning, so I want to be as safe as possible. Have you seen the F650 yet! That thing is huge!Originally Posted by Tracy

Oh hell yea I have seen those monsters!!!! TIGHT! If you are going to go that far, I would get a Freightliner. Talk about fresh to def.Originally Posted by Evolunchbox

I been driving the race car rigs for about 8 years now. Dan has fake Narcolepsy, so I have driven for days straight to California and back and had to compete in between. OH GAWD! I hate to even think about it now. I don't even know how we did all of that traveling! I am so glad to have a break!
OP. How is the Sequoia looking better? Do they make some magic Toyota Diesel Sequoia I'm not aware of? The Sequoia has the same engine as the Tundra, with the same power, weighs a good chunk more, and has a rear suspension designed for rear-passenger ride comfort. You'd probably spend less buying a cheap beater car, paying liability only on it, and buying a diesel to haul your car.
Oh P.S., domestic parts are easier to come by and cheaper for now. I don't know how all of this big 3 stuff is working. I guess if you want a warranty or need financing, you will buy new anyways. BUT sometimes you break down in the middle of no where and there ain't a dealership for miles. Those are the times you wish you had a domestic. When you have to find parts outside of the dealership.
The Freightliner is baller as hell! Do I need a special training for that beast?
I hate driving with friends that you know aren't sleeping, but pretend to so they don't have to drive...lmao! I have a buddy that is notorious for that!
Troof on the domestic parts being cheaper and more available.
This is another option I've been pondering.Originally Posted by Kaiser

No you don't need a permit for the Freightliner. It's the sport version. You don't need a permit, in general, until you get over 65' and a certain weight, I think. Unless you go to California, then their rules are all crazy.
yeah, but when you get a really exspensive rig(relative to your situation) you wont let too many friends drive it thoughOriginally Posted by Evolunchbox

i tow all the time with my f150. i have a 20 foot trialer with no brake. it handled ever car ive put on there without a problem. if the trailer had e-brakes it would be perfect. i got mines with a 100k warranty and so far havent had to use it (im at 43k now).
We let Baller drive ours once and he ran over a Honda. Literally!

I want one also, i just dont want the truck pymt. hahahahaha.. I tow with a Chevy 1500 and i get about 350 too then tank. But i feel like the truck struggles at 90mph, so time to upgrade also.
You tow with a Chevy 1500????? OMG! I would DIE! I have towed the Supra with our 1500 before. Not cute. My 1500 can barely get out of it's own way, much less tow anythingOriginally Posted by B18c1Turboed

hahaha it handles it own. I have towed alot with it,never had a problem. Shoot i used too tow with my Ford Ranger, going up thru the mountians was a little scary, when coming down the mountains. I think i shit in my pants a few times.Originally Posted by Tracy

I guess after towing with a Ranger, you would feel safer in anything! The only thing I ever towed with my Ranger (in high school before Dan) was my dirt bikes. They weigh like 2 lbs., though. You CRAZY, son!Originally Posted by B18c1Turboed
Then again, Tracy's idea of a little tow truck is an F450 lol... j/k
How about the 99-03 F350's that had the 7.3 Powerstroke Dually? They are priced right and have a freaking freight train engine...lol

if i were getting a ford then that's what i would get is a 7.3...had 2 and never had a problem out of them except for a turbo on one.Originally Posted by Evolunchbox

i will admit though that all my problems were self inflicted cause of programmers, bigger injectors and the like.... just saying cause you said you cant leave them alone and mod also...but 7.3's are great![]()

Sweet, now it's all about finding one that hasn't been modded much. I even like the exterior look of that series. The interior amenities (radio/nav/sat/back-up cam) can all be added later.Originally Posted by NevrNufTorq

I need to find a dealer that is sitting on a shit load of inventory thatw ants to dump cars and make great deals. That is the guy that is going to make the deal right now I would think. I would imagine if a private seller wanted to sell their truck they would want the most $$$ they could extract...
Thanks for the help NevrNufTorq![]()
anytime bro...most of the diesel forums say the exact sme thing and you can get a 7.3 to get some excellent mpg as well....def opt for the backup cam when you can, makes it soooo much easier hooking up to trailers especially big ones when you have to be spot on to hook up... i even have one mounted inside my sliding rear window to hook up my gooseneck double car hauler...just flip a switch to go from tag frame to bed camOriginally Posted by Evolunchbox

Do you think a gooseneck is the way to go? What are the positive and negative aspects of trailering one of those?Originally Posted by NevrNufTorq
for towing it is the best way...lil more bothersome to hook up but nothing totes better than goose or 5th wheel. i like goose cause there's only a ball in the bed and depending on hitch even that is removable...5th wheels are removable but heavy and when in most of your bed is uselessOriginally Posted by Evolunchbox

only downside to goose also is for a shorthaul lets say from my place up to mainstream....takes a few more min to hook up just to go up there to drop car off but still if i could change my shortbed car to goose or trade for one even i'd do it in a heartbeat...tows better and you can really manuever(sp?) it into almost anywhere b/c you can turn past 90 degrees like a big rig
only thing to get use to is the angle on turn in b/c the ball is in bed so the trailer turns short....plain english turn a lil wide and watch where the trailer follows...mainly right turn so you dont run up on a curb![]()

if your looking for a diesel and something that will last for ever we used to have a 98 cummins ram 2500 extended cab and it had balls and had reliability on its side we drove it for about 200,000 miles and then got rid of it when diesel prices went up but if your looking for a tow rig thats the best cummins motor they ever produced and can even hook up a bully dog tuner to them to get better mpg and more HP/TQ

Right now I tow with a 05 Infinit QX56, but will be getting a diesel also to do the towing load from now on.
racingjunk.com is a good place to find used stuff.
Oh and yes on the gooseneck...for sure.
