If you were to ever consider going boost I believe the F22b has cast iron cylinder walls. The H23 would be a good choice if you wanted N/A. Either one you can put a H22 head on later on down the road and with the H23 you will have the stroke for more power!

The F22b is the JDM equivalent to the H23A1.
H23's are USSUALLY more liked than the F22b.
I believe the horse power and torque numbers you qouted are a little off.
Both have 160hp. The h23 has 156 ft. lbs. of torque. The F22b should be relatively simillar, maybe a few less.
Both share the same head if I'm not mistaken, and have the same 6500rpm redline.
Like the person before me said, if boost is in the future the F22b is a better bet with the iron sleeves versus the H23's frm sleeves. Going for N/A setup? H23 would work just as well as the F22b.
The reason the iron sleeves are preferred is because they allow you to run off the shelf forged pistons. With the H23 you either have to run OE H series pistons (H22 slugs will yeild a much higher compression ratio), Mahle pistons, or replace the sleeves.
i imagine an H23 is a little easier to come buy tha an F22B making your choice a little bit easier.
Hope I helped you out. Any more Q's feel free to ask.

If your stock f22 is running fine I say keep that for a little while, whatever engine you decide to get have it on the side prepping it just the way you want it, you can degrease it, paint it gray to make it look new, paint the valve cover if you want, don’t abuse your f22 though, you can still get a little money for it after the swap, I would say get an USDM f22b1, from a 94-97 accord ex and you will be good with emissions, and like they said you can get an h22 head and prep that up the way you want it, and when you have it ready just pop it in and you are good 2 go, I wish I would have done that, and not have to work on my car while im driving it daily (not fun,) but if you have a second car and you can just park the cb7 that would be best, I learned that the hard way

thanks ppl reps given.....oh and whats the average price on each of those motors

im tryin to just swap the motor for something a lil better but not spend to much money like buying a h22 i dont have enough money for that

It's gonna be stock swapped no internal work like that, i just dont like the way stock SOHC motors look

oh btw i have a H23a1 tranny bolted to the stock stock f22---->is that good

whats the difference in the normal H/F family trannys

    H22, H23, F-series accord----->which is best for all-motor and which isnt

    and no H2B

FSERIES TRANS ARE STRONGER..I HEAR OF HSERIES TRANS BREAKING WAY MORE THAN FSERIES...

F22 IS CHEAPER THAN THE H22..NOT SURE OF THE H23..EVEN IF U SWAP IN THE HSERIES..ITLL USE THE SAME MOUNTS...LIKE PUTTING A BSERIES IN A CIVIC..USES THE SAME MOUNTS

h22 is the best for all motor, fseries sohc for boost or f22b dohc for boost. you can get a h22 for about 1k from jhot in augusta. f22x sohc run about $300-$500 depending condition, f22b dohc $400-$700
    About to approach beast mode

The F series trannies are really long. Great for boost, but on a NA or bolt-on setup, they're far from ideal.
here's the gear ratios of all the H series ratios. The Prelude S tranny (M2L5) is very similar if not identical to your F22 gearbox.

Search around on preludePower and see what you can find. I'd advise staying in the 4th gen section.

O.K . as a lude driver I would really have to suggest the H23. I have a red lude with an f22b in it and the thing overheats like nobodies business. But with the h23 in it you won't have any problems. On the tranny situation. No one tranny is better than the other. It all depends on the driver. I recently obtained a cb7 coupe. Right now Im in process of building the suspension then I'm moving on to putting my spare h23 in it. If you use an 8lb. flywheel and a good clutch the stock tranny will rev just as fast as an h22 or h23 tranny. Also the 87mm bore in combination with the higher compression and the 95 mm stroke will give you so much more torque than the f22b that you'll wish you had the h23. Hell the stock h23 with USDM H22A1 10:1 compression pistons will give you an H23 with 11.5-11.7:1 compression and plenty of hp and torque to sling a cb7 around alot faster than anything else around here. Hope this info has helped. Any other questions feel free to shoot me a pm.
