Chrome won't get you home but it will get you laid.

Ever tried to polish steel? It will rust in 8 hours with our humidity. For that shiny look aluminum is polished and steel is chromed. Chrome is cheaper, just like the stuff that's its covering because it takes alot less labor...it's a liquid and the metal is dipped in it then it hardens just like hard shell syrup on ice cream. Normally the metal is etched and coated with nickel before recieving the shiney final look. Chrome is just adding weight to something that is heavy to begin with while polishing doesn't add weight, it just makes it shiney and stuff.

lol. Polish no questions asked, it's completely pointless to chrome aluminum.

Anything can be chromed/electroplated, look at most of the plastic grills on cars & trucks in the last 10-20 years or even hub caps...it's plastic that's been etched for texture, coated with nickel, then the chrome is applied. Had a guy in Oregon offer to do all the plastic on my Triumph Daytona years ago for free BUT shipping all the parts to him and back was gonna cost more than I wanted to spend then i would have to figure out how to get the tank to match other than painting it black.

As for the BBS wheel, you can have it media blasted to clean it up...just like sand blasting but they use a differant medium: could be anything from glass beads to crushed up walnut shells depending on the condition and the look desired.

I can't sleep, so I figured I'd throw in my 2 cents. Basically, I think the RS would look HOT polished, but talk about labor intensive.

the big difference...shoot.... one is Chrome the other is polished.

polish doesnt have that "bling" status that Chrome can produce. Chrome looks nice on almost every vehicle as long as it is over done (lots of spokes, too big of rim, etc..)

chrome costs more and u cant do it yourself.

Since you are asking this ?, post a pic of the rims that u are deciding on polishing or chroming and make a poll. That is, if u are thinking about chromin or polishin rims

no, provided that the chroming was of high integrity, a knick shouldn't jeapordize the overall appearance at all. The shine should overpower the minor blemishes.

Now if the surface is damaged considerably - you couldn't just go get it filled in, it would then have to be sent back off for refinishing.

well, i didnt mean if it is noticeable or not. I meant...if u want to get a knick fixed with a chrome wheel the entire rim has to be redone. u cant just do a section?

well chrome loks good, but to get a s/s lip or whatever is just as good.. or get it titanium-nitride coated.. when it heats.. it should have a titan look go into effect
