I have driven the SMT as well as owned a 5 speed MR2 Spyder. The SMT is cool. The upshifts are very slow. Don't know if anyone has messed with the tranny computer to make them quicker or not. The downshifts are very nice. Very nice car, lightweight and handles great!

To my knowledge they have made programs for BMW's steptronic. I have yet to see it for any other makes though.

Yeah they are all pretty much the same. Every make seems to have a version though. Audi, VW, BMW, Toyota, Acura, etc...

    No sorry needed.

Did the GLI you saw look like this http://images16.fotki.com/v302/photo...SCN0470-vi.jpg ? It's a special editon Jetta with bigger breaks, Recaro seats, BBS wheels, sport suspension, 6 speed transmission, front and rear valence, and side skirts.

all of those type of trannies suck. Having that on a sports car is redundant imo and I don't even know why people bother with them. The sad part is some people glorify these so much, they think they blow the doors off a manual transmission car in a race. I mean, its a small, lightweight car and the engine isn't that big. Lazy asses just don't want to deal with driving stick. The only exception is if you have a condition in which you can't deal with shifting.

All of those types of trannies? Guess what........you're wrong. Volkswagens DSG with paddle shifters (basically tiptronic) shifts faster than a manual.
