Default Ls/b20 vtec or Poor mans type r

Should I build an ls/vtec, b20/vtec, or a poor mans type r. Right now im really big on the frankinstein theme, but I want something thats gunna last, and be quick.

For all practical purposes, they all put down enough power for me to be happy (I think) but which one will have the most power, and which one will be the most reliable. Prolly two different answers, but I just want some feed back.

This is going to be a project. Right now I got a gsr eg, but Im THINKING about getting a 4dr Da and starting from scratch. I want to get something better than the stock ls and I want to build it from the ground up.

I just cant decide on the exact setup. Even if I did narrow it down to an ls/b20 vtec, then I have to decide the type of head. Should I use a gsr head or a b16 head. But then again, if im gunna go through all that trouble, why don't I just build a poor man's type r. To many options right now.

build a poor man's type r for your hatch, b20 vtec for the da, then build a ls/vtec when one of them blows up.

DAMN! $1,300 just for the bracket! I build a stock ls/vtec for that price! (not including tuning)... I think the h2b might be outta my league...lol. thanks though. By the time I save up enough money for the h2b, I might as well get a k-swap!

If you want it to be a more reliable b20 or LS/vtec then use a GSR head. If you wanna keep it relatively stock then do a poor man's type r. With the pmtr you use the type r mani, throttle body, cams, valve train, etc...Which makes for a decent set-up stock. If you have any intentions of building it then just do the ls/vtec and get the power you will really be wanting.

How in the world do you consider, a gsr block and a b16 head with a typr r vavle train stock? Poor man's type r would be the most expensive setup out of all of them imo.

    Im confused now?

Stock, because it is all OEM Honda Parts. PR3 head, B18c block, ITR cams/valvetrain. No aftermarket parts for it. BUT IF YOU WANT TO DO AFTERMARKET CAMS/VALVETRAIN then it doesn't really matter. IF you really want to get creative get a K24 from a CRV, run a K20A3 ivtec head from an EP3 si. It would be a torque monster motor, great for a four door Teg. Plus it would leave you room for much more in upgrades and potential. The CRV K24 and the EP3 Si head are relatively inexpensive to get and would be fun plus different and probably wouldn't cost much more if any than doing a Poor man's type R or a good LS/VTEC

99si basically covered what i meant. And i consider the poor mans type r stock, because you use stock OEM parts. Its makes for a decent set-up using OEM parts...where as a Stock (OEM) LS/vtec makes a lil less power than it. If he intends to use aftermarket parts (valvetrain, rotating assembly, etc.) then he might aswell build an LS/Vtec and get more power. If you start putting aftermarket shit in a poor mans type r than it isnt really a type r anymore, which unless im wrong defeats the purpose of building a poor mans type r.

The only thing about that, is the fact that I think your forgetting the price of the tranny... . yyyaaaaaa..... lol. Now matter what I do, as far as b-series go, i'll already have a tranny, but if i go k-series, then i gotta drop all that kash on a freakin' transmission!

Well, I got the car now, and I got a little something-something that im working on that might turn a few heads. Unless anyone has a suggestion on how to swap a k in a 90' DB1 for less than $2,500, then I would say.... STAY TUNED!

Well im late for you bro. I've got several homies in cali doing the B20 vtec, and its nasty man. Compare your options, and look at how much you wanna spend. In my opinon, B20 vtec will be cheaper. But consider if you ever wanna boost it, the walls are thin. Ive got home girl has a B20 vtec built and boosted and she is killin katz in cali. To me i try to be different. Everyone is doing the poor mans r. But like i said time and money and if its built right. Then it will be reliable. Just my
