I would say all together that Doug, my cohort in all of this, and myself probably blew 15 of these engines. I know of one weekend were we blew 4 from Friday evening till Sunday afternoon.
I blew 2 Pontiac Quad4 engines. The first suffered from detonation and blew a piston apart. The second had a fuel problem with a s/c and ended up going seriously lean and throwing rods through the block.
With my BMW, I have torn the S50 up twice. The first time the cylinder head cracked and it hydrolocked #3 or #4. Then the last time I bent 2 rods from boost spikes.
I blew up a friends s/c 302 in his foxbody when we took it to Colorado in '97. That was the last time that I ever drove a Mustang.
I blew several (4 or 5) B18's when first stepping into the FI Honda world back in '98-'99. Finally got it right when I took it to get tuned in FL. However upon first arriving, I didn't think that the drunk ass guy could even stand up, let alone tune my car. Well he did and his tune lasted 20K+ miles of pure abusive driving until the car got stolen.
I won't go into all the air cooled motors that I blew other than asking, "Have you ever seen a 1600cc blow 2 foot flames back through the carb as the carb is being blown off the engine?"
