Default WTB: Running $500 5-Speed Car

Okay, I got $500 and I want to get my girlfriend a 5-speed car in which to teach her how to drive stick and maybe introduce her to tuning. Looking for old-school Civic's, early 240SX's, basically anything that I can drive home and put her in without having to fix eleventi-bajillion things. I'd like to be in at least presentable condition. Let me know what you got. Pics and info would be nice. Thanks!

Thanks. I'm hoping to maybe find a late 80's Civic or something. It doesn't have to be real pretty, just not a rat nest.

I don't think it's going to happen, at least not here. Shells are selling for that much. Besides, you dont wanna pay $500 for a car and then have to dump $900 into it. You will probably need to do a tuneup, replace tires, brakes, balance it and whatnot. If you do find one, it will be toward 300k miles= not too reliable.

True, but I can do a tune-up or little things like brakes or whatever. This isn't really a car to keep for a long time, just a learner.

    Ahahahaha pwnt.

Nice post though, I'm in the same boat. 240 or civic. However I do have a bit more money to play with, mind if I piggy-back your thread?

Not at all. Just don't steal my offers.

My buddy has an EH Civic hatch for $400, but it needs more work than I want to put into it. EH's are also hideous.

IMHO, the 1996 to 2000 Civic coupe is the best looking civic, save maybe the current generation. I really like the headlights and profile of the car.....thats the EK I think?

    Eh, I like early EG's, but I won't get one for $500.

Yeah, like I said, I have more money to play with. I already have a car (as do you), but I want something I can literally build from the ground up....you know as I get money swap out stuff for leather, rims, small things like tint and start building a swap somewhere.

The car I'm driving now spoils me with power everything, leather and all that shit, but because I'll be saving up for the most baller of things, insted of just buying what works, eventually this car will be tight as hell.

The car runs great. It is a 5 speed, and the interior is complete and very clean for its age. The pictures are before a small accident. It hit a wall at about 10mph head on. A turn signal is broken, fender and bumper are dented and scratched, nothing major. There is no rust on the car except for on the hood. I dont know if u remember me but i went to IHOP with u and kyle, dominic, frank, pj, nick, etc after NP a few weeks ago. I usually drive a black jetta but I can drive it to the NP meet this week if u want to look at it.

why not let her learn on the Yaris, and spend the towards a new clutch if necessary. Some people pick up driving a stick better than others.

But if thats out of the question then buy PLV's car. very clean, and great MPG.
