How are you going to teach them about due process if you don't follow it yourself. If the GIs had done that to someone in the US, they would be locked up for destroying private property. These guys aren't cops and the people have not been presented to a court to have a chance to defend themselves. Now they will hate Americans for being hypocrites and will be more likely to help the enemy.
