NHRA Funny Car and Top Fuel use a clutch system that slips at first then engages depending on what the crew chief sets up. That drives the 3.20 final drive.

A lot of sportsman racers do use the auto as it is easier to be more consistant, so I guess both points can be valid.
yeah, but the pro classes are not shiftinh like a regular 6 speed or 5 speed car. its a lot more consistant and easier
