They're light, strong tranny that is good for 9's, endless aftermarket, equal length axles, etc. SRT4's aren't bad either, and I've had good luck building those for people, but most other FWD cars are worthless when it comes to drag racing. I don't know enough about the Cobalt to really comment on it (it might be a decent FWD platform), but the motor itself is pretty proven from all accounts of what I've seen. Ecotec's did very well in the NDRA, so that does say something about the motor.
you are correct, ecotecs rock balls.

transmission? ROFL kiss my ass that fucker can accept 350-400(babying it) hp before it pops a hole in the casing

clutch? ROFL stock is good for maybe 250-300 and i never replace clutches

equal axles? no... the engine for one is tilted so it needs to be angled toward the cabin to avoid snapping axles. They are not even, i forgot which side was longer, all i know is people snap them after 250 whp and move on to the 800 hp ones....then the tranny breaks.

trust me, it is not worth it. I am really considering the rsx boosted k20. Although i havent looked at their issues either.

It takes alot of stupid to blow up the ecotec engine, the rest...isnt up to snuff.
