Lol @ the cat. And I like that divider--we could use one of those in our den.

you have a fair amount of noise in the spider man image... high ISO hand-held?
Angel is the cats name... my girlfriend has had him for 14 years, born at her house. He is big 17 pounds.
The room divider is made out of old glass folding doors and closet doors... not bad for the job.
Yeah I was at 400-500 iso. I had to crop the spider man too, while the tree is 100% just resized. I might try it again tomorrow.
Thats at ISO500? hmmm. I thought you said you picked up Noise Ninja?
I used it on the background but not on the figure itself as it makes everything soft. The only thing I can think of is cropping it so much makes the noise more visible. The tree is also at 500 and it doesn't look like that.
got some new kicks

In this case it is a very "flat" image because it is so evenly lighted from a head-on strobe, not to mention the reflection off the leather.
I would use an external light source(s) (desk lamp or something) for your lighting and not the strobe. You will probably have to play with your white balance because the lamp lights are very "warm". Experiment with the angle of the lighting on the shoe... Try to heavily light one side and reflect some of that heavy light on the shadowed area with a white card/wall (or lesser light source).
A tripod for your camera and aperture around f16 for a deep DOF.
I know it is a lot for a picture of a shoe but it will help you get a good understanding of product photography.
Just a pic of many from this fall spent at Helen, GA. Shot with a point & shoot camera and thought it turned out okay. :)
