no, i'm done ranting. i feel better. i just want people to critique people! no one will be a better photographer by having someone tell them every shot they take is 'sweet, bro'.
and shooting at an angle on every shot is a huuuuge pet peeve.

Where have all the good photographers gone? I am also on HS, FM forum, Filckr, dA,... all get a glance when I am waiting on my customers to respond, then it is on with my day. This place is my least inspirational stop but it is still good to see some peoples efforts at trying to become better. I can't say my work is spectacular but it is always getting better. Flunking out on the camera mechanics by experience does give user feedback with or without a critique. Posting it up for all to see helps you become more critical of your own work.

but you should always act as though there is! why not take the extra time to post good stuff!? try and inspire someone else out there to take a better one to post and then it builds. why continue to let crap build on crap?
everyone from my gen. has quit coming to IA because there are so many new young'ns on here that have no respect for anything. they post crap cars, crap pictures, crap feedback. just crap. it's frustrating. i used to LOOOVEE coming here. it was full of all of my favorite things. now it's just a cesspool for garbage automotive.
posting in here offers no critiquing though! every pic is deemed 'good' with no explanation of why.
one of my favorite pics. i love the color, DOF, framing, exposure. i matted and framed this shot for my dad. if you haven't done so to one of your own shots, you def. should. it really brings a photo home for you to see it in print and nicely framed.
It was probably a great moment for you when you were shooting this.
It is interesting to try to figure out what is on the horizon as a landscape subject , I do feel as if your horizon is off though.
The lens flair and fire like horizon stands out the most for me as the positive. If the flair was stronger it would be better.
The in focus area on the ground is distracting because it is so busy.
Thanks for posting.
...okay. I will post only one photograph today. It's a bit generic. But here you go.
It's a team effort. Photograph by my girlfriend and edited by me.

and I may be crossing the line here. But before editing.

Nice pics iamdallas A little helpful critiquing if you don't mind. :D
The red flower on the left side slightly suffers from being OOF. Maybe a smaller aperture (higher F stop #) would have worked to make the flower more in focus. If it was more in focus then I think it would really make this picture. The focus point was also at the bottom of the flower and may have looked better if focused on the stamen (yellow pollen area). The above edited image is a tad over saturated and the blacks are at the clipping point.
Otherwise I can see this becoming a nice image :) Keep it up!
Me clean you're on a high horse, get off it please. The best way to lead is by example so don't complain about others when you're not doing anything to help your cause. I personally think some good stuff gets posted in here. I also think that last photo you posted is boring because there's not really any subject matter and it looks like a snapshot. I'm not trying to attack you, just remember that a photo you think is great might not be great to others and vice versa.

for today - I actually took this one. :)
I'm going out on a real estate shoot this evening... going to use a hybrid HDR and strobe technique, so I will post up my best result from the shoot tonight.

The house was OK... not outstanding, there is not one shot that really stood out to me... but here is what I feel is the best single shot out of the session.

I like how the 2 onlookers frame the car in that photo above
And not only is the car the focus to us... the viewer here, it's the focus of the audience within the photo. lolol
It captures the excitement of seeing an exotic car in this way. Very clever. I enjoy the blurred faces of the onlookers as well... it accentuates the focus of the photo well.
meta-theatre - except with photographs. haha
just looked through the last 3 pages.. some nice pet pictures posted.
Mr Clean you posted some really nice images as well.
regards to getting a favorite image printed and framed i can totally agree. it wasnt until i found millers printing with their fantastic selection of paper that i was hesitant about printing and framing my own images. it really does bring them that much closer to home.
3 shot exposure for manual blending with strobes camera left and camera top. The room was so unevenly lit that without the strobes it was a mess... yet it was so big that overpowering the outdoor light was near impossible. It in past I would have just shot this without a strobe, autobracket 3 up and 3 down (6 shots) and HDR merge in photoshop all without strobes. I really did get lazy on this shoot though because if I payed more attention to getting the HDR to grab the ambient light off of the lamps, and then get a even exposure through a strobed shot, the blending would have brought out more of the outdoor view and gotten rid of those hot spots.
Thanks for taking a look! ...now back to my studio construction :) I have got a band shoot coming up the end of this week!
Not sure if this is photography day worthy...but wanted to test out my new lens with new speedflash. Took a picture of Awkward Bunny my girlfriend got me. Any constructive criticism welcomed.

some constructive critique....
watch your white balance if you can... pay attention to other light sources influencing light and color in your image. i assume your flash was in the hot shoe in your camera?
usually just set your white balance to Flash to properly color your subject.
how high was your ceiling in regards to the bunny? try using your diffuser that came with your flash unit (should have come with a basic diffuser at least) and point the flash head straight up unless there is a wall or wall corner behind you then you can bounce flash if you want.
if you shoot in manual or aperture priority mode with the flash? if manual mode then set your shutter to around 1/60th - 1/80th and ISO to around 400 and white balance to FLASH and your image should have a slightly better true color instead of the warm tones it has now.
if you used the flash off camera then if they came with any gels you can gel your flash head with the color of one of the light sources in the room to help properly balance the white balance of back ground/foregrounds.
play around with different angles of the flash head until you get more comfortable with rooms/walls and the flash so you can attain better results with proper exposure instead of the hot spot on the head of the bunny and a dark spot on the belly.
good luck and keep shooting!
Thanks!!! What do you mean by hot shoe? Ceiling was probably 6 foot highter than the bunny? Maybe 8.
Yeah I don't have a diffuser right now, gonna make one of those DIY with the plastic cup since I bought the Speedflash from someone on IA.
As for the ISO, yea I realized my iso was set way too high from other shots that day.
Recommend any good gels? Thanks
this thread is getting awesome.
well... I'm not really a photographer.
But I gots a new film camera. This is the only one the developer didn't FUCK when he was putting it in digital format for me.
