for those that have a site.....
    1. was it built from scratch?

    Yes
    2. did you buy a template?
No, but a lot of people do.
    3. did you make the site yourself?
    Yes
    4. who do you host with and how much does it cost you yearly?
    3shost and ~$120 a year

    5. how many images are you allowed to have up?
As many as I want, but I don't bother uploading big photos to my site anymore... not when flickr, photobucket, picasa, and imageshack are free
    .
    6. do you have to know HTML to add/delete photos from your site?
Yes, but there are scripts I could put on the site that would automate the process if I wanted.
The photo gallery on my site isn't a 'photography' exhibition to show off stylish photos. It is a gallery so that people can see photos of people&places I have come into contact with throughout my life.

Whats funny, is that I actually did sell a photo off my personal site without even intending to. (I would have given them the photo for free if they'd asked.. but they threw money at me so I took it!)

please post up or PM me, i need to be educated on this stuff!!! any help is GREATLY appreciated!!!!

What are you going to use your site for? Showing off photos? Trying to sell services as a photographer? Just sharing pictures with people?

Everyone and their grandma has the cookie-cutter flash template site "<insert name> photography" with the roll over menus and what-not. Not my cup of tea, but whatever... figure out what you want to do with your site and then you'll be one step closer to figuring out what kind of site/hosting will work best for you.

Just be warned that maintaining a site for yourself is a chore... which is why the free services that automate the process (upload photo, put caption, done) are so common among enthusiasts.

good stuff. thank you. i plan on using the site for future clients to look at. when people ask how to get intouch with me and want to see a portfolio i want to be able to send them to a REAL site not my bullshit myspace page.

im pretty sure a template will get done what i want to get done. i dont need or want anything wild, just a clean simple page, maybe with the option to buy prints.
