Default Just some pics I took at church tonight

Just had my camera with me at church tonight and snapped some pics.

These were just for fun and not for any religious debate.

    Opinions are welcomed.

    hey Jaime,

how did you take that 3rd pic, w/ the blurring efect? that shot is nice! I'm new at this photography shit, and I picked up a Sony DSC-H1 about a month ago, and still need to play around with it... any ideas?

looks like he shot it on a tripod or his car with a slow shutter speed (5=10 seconds guessing).

Thinkfast: Teg is right. I took that pic with the camera on a tripod, slowed the shutter to like 2.5-3 secs. and snapped a pic towards an intersection. Your camera has a manual shutter option on it. I'm not sure how slow it will let it go on the slowest side, but you can try it.

It's easy. Get a tripod, fasten the cam to it, set the shutter to it's slowest setting, and without touching the cam too much snap a pic. If it's too busy, then speed it up a little, snap another, and repeat until you get the desired effect. You have to choose a busy place where the subjects will be coming during the time the shutter is open otherwise you won't catch much.

Teg: We've said that a couple of times and we never go. I'm ready when you are. I'm getting a little more comfortable with the new camera now. I'd like to take some different pics other than just plain jane car pics.

I had to send my camera back but should have the replacement by the first of next week. I agree that I want to shoot something besides cars. Not sure if you saw this or not but I will post up some of the car pics I took. Where do you want to shoot at?

Teg: That looks like the Year One show. Very nice. I like the B&W one a lot. How do you get that copyright stuff on your pics? I want to be able to do that really bad.

I'm game to go to shoot cars/motorcycles or what not, just want to get a little creative with it. I'm bored of shooting from the same positions all the time. I'm short, so all my car pics end up looking the same after a while. There's only a certain height I can get to and only so many crouching shots you can take.

I'm going to do some high speed action shooting at my daughter's football game on Saturday. My son also has a baseball game, but usually I'm too busy at those to take any pics.

I like taking unposed shots of people, but when they are posed I like to use a different composition to the pic than just them right smack dab in the middle. I need two more lenses, a really wide angle one and a super fast zoom (the one I have now is not fast enough), and then I can try and work with the processing side of things. I wanna get proficient enough with the actual pics before I start trying to mess with them after via processing. I don't know jack about processing, so I figure I'd better bring good pics in the first place before starting to mess with them via processing.

Thanks man, it was actually a cruise in up here in Canton. A couple of them are a little dark but I can fix that in PS. The black and white is also my favorite and I got the perfect angle on that one from what I have been told

As for the copyright, do you have photoshop? If you do then use this as a guide to set up a brush to use for your signature.
    Signature Stamp

I want to do some landscape shots and maybe head to a park and take some candid shots of people. Just do something different.

    Thank you.

You can have one too my friend. I just went crazy and bought all kinds of different things for it as soon as I got it. It's a disease. I can't keep anything freaking stock.

I don't have photoshop. I have something that my camera came with, but like I said before I don't know jack about processing. I may try and play with it tonight and see if has some kind of copyright thing on that.

I like the park idea. My daughter wanted me to take her to the fair, so I may take some shots there. Although carrying a tripod around the fair all night is not really my idea of fun.

Lol, tripod at a fair does not sound like fun. Might want to look into getting a monopod. I am looking at one but not sure yet.

Talk to Paul about PS, I think he might be able to hook you up.

Well lets set something up to head to a park or head up to one of the battlefields (Kennesaw, Chicamauga) and take some pics.

I'll have to talk to Paul then.

I'll have to look into a monopod.

I've never been to the Battlefields. What's that about?

Where some of the battles during the civil war took place. They are proctected by the gvmt so there are some rich colors to shoot there as well as a lot of history.

http://ngeorgia.com/travel/kennesawmtn.html is a link to some information about the one in Kennesaw and then there is one in Chicamauga. I want to head down to Savannah and take some pics of the Antebelleum architechture down there.

Here are some pics I took tonight.

Again, comments are welcomed. These turned out better than the last ones I took of my car. I'm trying, I'm trying.

Like I said, I'm starting to get the hang of the camera. I still want to take more pics.

the second one I like but I think you should have been down a little lower when you took it. The first one looks like it needs a polorize filter on it to tone down some of the reflection on the side. I think I would have moved over to the left a little more and shot it that way. Just a suggestion.

You know, I didn't think about using a polarizing filter on that shot because I figured it would make it too dark. The sun was about setting, so I figured I'd shoot it w/o. Now that I think about it you may be right though. I think it would've cut down on that reflection. I'll try it next time.

As for getting low, I still had on my work clothes so I wasn't gonna get sprawled out in those....

I did get some shots from much lower, but they were later and turned darker than I'd like. See:

I was rushing. I had a tripod and could've done better, but I was getting frustrated with myself and called it a day.

A polar filter will not make it any darker but it will help with reflections and composition. I think that is what he told me, lol. I have to order some for mine. I think you might be referring to the ND filter, that will make it darker for sure.

I understand about the work clothes and not wanting to get sprawled out on the ground but if you want that killer shot

I will play around with this pic in PS and see what I can do with it. I might be able to get it a little better.

If you want to read some good info on how to set up pics and stuff Go Here and look at the transportation section. There is a guy there MoboHaji that is awesome and can give you some great pointers.

I don't know bud, but when I use a PL filter on anything but sky pics it seems like the pics are darker than normal. Maybe I have the settings wrong somewhere else too, but they definetly seem darker to me.

Thanks for the link. I looked over some of his pics and they are awesome. He is using a Cir. Polarizing filter. I wonder if that's different than a simple PL filter like I have???? His colors pop really good, which is what I'd like to have myself. Maybe I'll do some reading and find out.

    Thanks for the advice.

With a standard PL you might want to overexpose by 1 or 2 to compensate for the filter. I am not sure but it sounds like it might work

As for a cirular PL I think that might be a big difference seeing as how you can rotate it to have max PL or no PL or in between. I am going to look into getting one for my camera next.

That link is awesome with a lot of good info. A couple of more that I am on is:

Each one has some good things to offer but are not as indepth as the first one I posted.

I think I may have found the problem.

I think I have a LINEAR Polarizing filter vs a Circular Polarizing filter.

    Check it out:

    http://www.mat.uc.pt/~rps/photos/fil...v_pol/faq.html

Towards the bottom of that article, after weeding thru a bunch of junk, you will see a FAQ about the circular vs linear thing.

One thing I noticed is that they keep refering to the Linear filters as throwing off the metering of modern SLR cams. That would explain why my pics, at certain lower light levels, seem darker. Probably throwing off the cam into thinking that the light is fine and therefore since I don't use completely manual settings, it snaps the darker pic thinking it's OK.

This is all conjecture since I don't know if mine is for sure a Linear one, but based on what I've been reading it sure acts like one.

I think I'm going to go today and go by Wolf and picking me up a Circular Polarizing filter and see if that makes a difference. Man, that would be awesome if it did.

Thank you for making me think a little.

    Thanks Kev and Leisa.

Teg- I kinda like the second one. Is that like a Sepia detail?

I caught a cool shot at Jacqueline's game a little while ago. Check it out:

BTW Teg, I went out today and bought me a Circular Polarizer filter....

I was shooting with the bigger zoom today, so I didn't use it....but I will. I'll let you know if it makes a difference.

The pic was retouched with a warming filter in PS. I liked the second one the best out of those two also.

That shot looks really good, good detail

Def. let me know how the Circular PL filter works for you.
