Help me with some PP Work

Ok so I know my way around photoshop for standard editing. Maybe swapping to Sepia and I can mess with adjustment. I can use the clone tool and items like that. What I need to work on is changing out large sections of photos. Specifically the sky on overcast days. Just want to add a bit of 'flare' to the photo and make it pop more.

The two ways I 'know' of don't yield the result. Will post photo below. Keep in mind I did use a bit of the shadow/highlight tool to try and force some color/contrast into the sky.

I tried Magic Wand - Get way too much of the cars roof due to glare
I tried select - color range - Same deal. Get way too much of the cars roof due to glare.

Both methods since there is a white spot on the roof line of the car it grabs that. So a DIY on what I can do? Looking for the photoshop gurus

Going into taking this photo I KNEW the sky would be bad so I even bracketed and created an "HDR". Photo below is 3 photos merged so the final photo was properly exposed and not lacking details. I got frustrated so didn't clone out the little tree on the left side of the roof and didn't clone out the poll on the right.

Don't know if it's anything you wanted, but I tried to lighten and bring the clouds out a lil more...

I used coral paint shop pro... I tried tho...lol

Kind of. That is the shadow/highlight tool. When you go too far the back of the car looks fake

yeah, I noticed that. I'm still trying to get used to this program. Sorry I couldn't help.

there really wasn't too much to work with. did you shoot these with raw or jpg?

vignette is a bit heavy but it helps darken the sky corners.

I always shoot in Raw. I could try and really decrease the exposure of the bracketed shots on the under exposed side and then merrge them...

On the one with the building you can easily use the pen tool (if you know how to use it) then do an adjustment layer. On the one with the car you use the background eraser tool (if you kow how to use it). I can look up a tutorial for you if you don't.

For selections (this neither quick nor easy) I use the polygonal lasso when I want the absolute most precise selection. You can zoom in up to 800% and get the exact pixels you want. the only problem is the patience factor. Long sweeping curves will test your ability to patiently make a series of very small little straight line dashes in order to recreate a curve. Then I'd use the burn/dodge tools to bring out the clouds a little bit, especially if you had a separate picture exposed FOR the sky. Then you could paste that sky in, and use a layer mask to have the correct placement.

I tried a little selection and burning of the sky. It's far from perfect, but maybe it's what you were going for a little bit?

duuuuuude, learn the pen tool. its so much better than fucking polygonal lasso. seriously.
