That gives his tummy some time to get used to the new food. If you notice him having the runs or getting constipated, add a spoonful/half spoonful of canned pumpkin to his food. For whatever reason canned pumpkin (plain pumpkin NOT the premade pumpkin pie mix) will clear up the runs, and help soften hard stools. Plus my dogs love it.

My doggie Yoshi had BAD gas and the runs on his old food, but once I switched over fully it took a few days for the old food to get out of his system and his tummy settled down after that.

Steve-O - they might like the food and do fine on it, but probably on a better food you'd notice a difference. Their coats will look better, teeth, etc. In the long run they'll be healthier because they're getting more nutrition out of their food.

Ren - That's definitely impressive. Even the smell of Nutro smells good, not like nasty dried dog food. I'd like to see some of those companies bringing in bags full of chicken guts, necks, feet and mystery animal fat, LOL.
thats what i figured cause at 1st i was feeding them IAMs then that whole issue about them and i switched them to beneful and now im hearing beneful sucks .. so im gunna end up getting the nutro ..

you guys hear about NuVet ?? what do u think of it im thinking about getting my dogs NuVet ..

In general, you shouldn't need any sort of suppliments unless the dog looks like he's missing something in his diet, ie, low energy, coat isn't shiney, skin is itchy, etc. Your best bet is to have your dogs getting all their nutrition in their diet, as it's easy to overdo it with suppliments and end up possibly harming your dog, especially with growing dogs.

The only suppliment I give my dogs is human-grade fish oil, since most commercial dog foods have supplimented Omega 6 oils (from seeds), but lack Omega 3 (from cold water fish). It helps with any sort of allergies, itchy skin, bones and joints, etc. Plus my dogs love to lick it out of a spoon, haha.

If you want to increase muscle mass, be sure they're getting enough protein in their diet (which would be taken care of with a higher quality food) and be sure to exersise them regularly. Be careful when they're young and their joints are still forming, however. Just like people who over do it with steriods and the like to be bigger than nature intended them to be, the same goes for dogs. He'll be in the best shape he can be in for his frame and the most healthy if you feed him a balanced diet and make sure he's in good shape.

    Val for President.
