I have come across faiths that use distorted versions of the bible as well, but that is why its important for people to understand the bible based on the cultural history around it and the original languages. There are resources out there that people who want to study the bible can use to get the original greek and hebrew that all versions of the bible should be translated from. Sadly there are people out there who just paraphrase the texts and we also have a problem with our language not being as definitive as greek or hebrew. For instance when we write the word love its just love.
