Open Office is 100% free, it has the exact same functions and capabilities of everything in the Microsoft Office package. It is even fully compatible with MS Office. It's free but is also a resource hog. Some comparos say it takes 4 times the amount of RAM to hold the same data in memory and files take a bit longer to open. A real deal breaker if you have to work with multiple files on a slightly older machine.
Yes, it's great when compared to a $300+ Office CD but just doesn't hold up to a free download of Office '03/'07 fom the university server.
