My roommate claims that if he breaks his laptop on purpose that he could take it in to best buy and the warranty will automatically give him a new one. he is planning on beating his laptop with a bat and taking it in to get a new one. is this true?

I guess you'll find out when he takes his back. Don't count on it though.
it violates the warranty terms.......plus its easy to notice that the laptop was beaten by a baseball bat...
he is an idiot. even if he has the extended ACCIDENTAL damage coverage it does not cover stupidity.Originally Posted by phatzboyal

Well we've had customers with the accidental warrenty come in and their computer have falling off the hood of their cars when they've left them up there and we covered it. I've only had that happen once though.
Beating it with a baseball bat is the most retarded thing you could do. Tell him to go read all the small letters and make sure he doesn't **** that up.
I use to sell those warranties and I know for a fact I told my customers (as I was told to do so) it is 'accidental' coverage. NOTHING intentional (I.E. baseball bats, screwdriver through the hard drive) now I also remember looking into the warranty myself and I believe it WAS something like 2 cracked screens covered?
ALL IN ALL, its great - but I still recommend backing up information like always on any computer. And not abusing the warranty especially if you don't even have the basic knowledge of its coverage.
not sure in this case, but my friend did overheat his laptop in purpose, and get a new one under warranty. So, u never know what gonna happen.
What kind of warranty does he have. Best Buy offers 3 kind of warranties (maybe more). Like one that basically is an extension of the manufacturers warranty and if they can't fix it in 3 tries then they will replace it with the same item or of something of equal or comparable value that does the samething (excludes misuse) and then you have the replacement warranty that will replace the item if it ever gets defective (excludes misuse). The warranty he might be talking about is the warranty that Best Buy offers on Cameras and other portable items that protects your purchase incase you drop it.
He better check to make sure what warranty he purchased. All he has to do is go into a best buy and tell some one in Customer Service to CCM (Customer Contact Manager) his name or phone number and that will let him know what warranty he has.
Also a Manager has final say so in the matter and if the manger decides that the product was destroyed by you on purpose, then have fun dealing with Corporate trying to get them to take care of the situation.
At the store I work at, Geek squad is serious about checking items out throughly before they deem an item warrants warranty protection.
2006 Evo IX - Bolt ons
tell him to shoot it with a shotgun and tell them it was an accident
Its stupid if he beats it with a bat. I use to work there and tell him to just spill some soda on his keypad and call it a day, but BEFORE he does that make sure he has a accidental damage warranty. There were two types being offered when I was there.
The first was a parts and labor coverage on normal wear and tear. The second was accidental. Make sure he paid extra for that cuz if he didnt than he will be out of luck. DONT listen to those sales guys cuz they will say anything to get you to buy it.
