    Default Z U L8R's 1978 280z /w RB25DET mod list & good bye tribute

Sold the car to a close friend of mine. Here is the list of the mods it had, in case someone has similar goals in mind or u were just curious to wtf i had done to it.

I believe i was lifting the head cause hadn't yet retorqued the arp head studs, hence the dip around 5200rpm, but mainly Turbo Dave tuned me for 20psi on 93 octane (pump gas) and i put 100 octane in it, cranked it to 22psi then strapped it to the dyno for the 441 run to see what the air fuels were at 22psi, i wasn't tuned for 100octane nor 22 psi, here's a cleaner graph from an actual tune and not a dyno queen peak power graph after i swapped the rear end from a 3.9 to a 3.54

pink was 20psi pump gas with the 3.9 rear end old tune
red was 14psi "low boost" with the 3.54 rear end new tune
blue was 20psi pump gas with the 3.54 rear end new tune

you can see low boost holds the torque true all the way to redline
but 20psi at 6k rpm the turbo runs out of steam. .63 a/r is the smallest version of the gt30/76r , if i went to the .8X or the 1.X (bigger housing) it'd be a little laggier but it would support it all the way to redline. overall the 30r is a kick ass turbo if you want 400 or a little more.

    *SUSPENSION*
    energy suspension complete bushing kit
toyota 4x4 4 piston front calipers

    *RIMS*
Riken 14x7's with bfg t/a 245/60/14's in the rear fronts are 215's

    *INTERNALS*
    Commetic Metal HG
    ARP Head Studs
Stock head, stock ports, stock cams, stock pistons, stock rods, everything besides the HG and head studs was stock on the 440hp dyno

I wanted to see what the limits were.....and after 7 months the timing belt broke due to a bad tb idler pulley....so gay..so i did wiseco 8.5:1 pistons +acl bearings + oe oil pump

from experience I'd recommend built bottom end passed 350hp

    *MODS*
    GReddy intake manifold
    GReddy timing belt
    GReddy Profec
    Walboro 255lph inline fuel pump
    Q45 Throttle body
    Z32 MAF (blow through)
    Z32 n/a 5 speed transmission
OS Geiken Super Single 6 puck unsprung clutch & flywheel combo
    Ebay bar & plate fmic 25" x 11.5" x 3" core (27.5" from tip to tip)
    Apexi Power FC
    DeutcheWerk 550cc side fed injectors
    Precision GT30/76R .63 a/r hot side, .60 a/r compressor side
XS Power top mount exhaust manifold (had to angle the turbo flange a lil)
Tial 38mm external wastegate (9-13lb spring)
    AFCO aluminum racing radiator
    N1 water pump
    Gizmo phenolic intake manifold gasket
    BCPR7ES @ .028 or BKR7E @ .028 gap
Buick Grand National Ignition coil pack
MSD 8.5mm Wires (if u buy the v8 kit they're longer than the v6 kit)
    Blitz Bov
    Magnaflow 3" muffler

*THE MEN BEHIND THE SCENES AND SPECIAL THANKS TO*

I drove that 280z for about 2 years with the stock L28E around, then finally rb20'd it. the rb20 was ok for a couple months and i had this rb25 waiting and waiting and waiting for the 240z to be finished but it didn't, so i said f@#^ it and put it in the 280. Got a lot of kills with the Z.....

Basically I was getting the drivetrain situated in the 280z so once the body work was finished on my 71 240z, i would have a complete package. the 240z has all the suspension stuff already on it and bubble widebody fender flares molded into it. at this stage in it's 3 years in my possession. it's all in primer, rust free, with the flares, a molded in whale tail and beefier frame rails. the 240z should weigh in around 2300lb whereas the 280z was 2600lb. I plan on going LS_ + BOOST in the 240z

here's some links to some vids i've made with the 280z

    here's a 90mph 4th gear pull when it was 305rwhp@15psi on the ebay t3/t4
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=fDMKovyAAWo&feature=related

here's giving a 436hp supercharged foxbody stang a car length head start, the Z had 391hp at the time
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=xGcbAOLDo4o&feature=related

here's my very first time at a drag strip with it

i just like the way it sounds in this one, i was trying to get out of first gear as fast as possible so i wouldn't spin....lol@helluva trap speed for the weaksauce E.T.
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=kjE70Cd6_Sg&feature=related

    here's vs my friend chad with a 400hp srt4 (gtk500)
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=NxjeREchpQU&feature=related

here's my best pass. i never ran slicks or drag radials at the track cause i had to drive it home and i didn't want to break anything...which i did go through 2 driveshafts until i spend the money on the real deal.
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=X9JAj3DY6E8
the vid says gt30/71r but it was really a gt30/76r. i didn't notice that till later but too late. lol@ the music, it was an inside joke. that was on pep boys s-rated 245/60/14's with a 3.9 open diff...2.1 60' ftl >_< got traction?

then i got tired of the yellow and primer so i primed the whole thing
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=ctxV2CbYNg0&feature=related
o3 zo6 (470rwhp) and for the record that evo ran 11.6's i think it was round 400awhp

sorry for the novel, thanks for reading it all hehe
    take care,
    Dave

this is also my closure / good bye.....because i'll miss the 280

I've always loved the car. I've always hated those wheels on it. So out of place. Later, QD.

    SVT LOL i remember that

i could barely see that second pic, the first link didn't work for me,

if you have pics of it lemme see, i'll add to my scrapbook

i know QD :P i still have my 14x7 riken meshies too, i had to get one repaired tho and it never balances out so i got tired of the shake and threw on the tsw's , the car felt like it accelerated faster though with the smaller rims.

those were good times. thanks for getting an old school section QD, it's been a while since i been on IA.

all i could find of the Z from that event was 30 seconds into this vid
