Shrugs. I say go for it. Do what you want man. Don't let any of us more or less make your mind up for you.

I didn't think it was you, but we've never met so I wasn't sure. Didn't even realize it could have been you until you posted that M30 yesterday. Yeah, I had no idea that car was "old school." Hopefully the dude carries no hard feelings as it was just an honest mistake. Later, QD.

ummm bro i wouldnt hate u at all, but i will consider the fact that u will be destroying a car by putting in a 302.. the car's power to weight ratio will change and thats what RX7s are best known for, other than the rotary engine its powered by..

Seriously you should build yourself a 13T (turbo II) motor and swap that in, it'll be more fun and of course it'll be all Mazda.. just how Jay Leno swapped a bridge-ported 12A motor and tranny into his R-100.. please to keep it true, from heart and soul.

Then again i cant argue with your decision to swap in a 302 motor.. it is your car and your money, so do what u want. I will respect your you either way but not your car, even though i would love to see it lol!!

SKarpenz i will say this though.. if you swap it... swap it right.. dont just throw shit together and make it look like shit because RX7's are not shit.. on your project and go ahed with your future project

Alright guys, I decided to keep the rotary. I guess I thought about it and I realized that it really would be a waste to put a V8 in such a nice car as this GSL-SE. If I want to do a V8 swap I need to get a shitty old FC.

On another positive note, I picked up some REALLY nice old school Enkei wheels. They are 14x6 and a lower offset it seems. 2 piece riveted wheels, no curb rash whatsoever and they even have the original center caps. I threw a spare pair of tires on 2 of the wheels and put them on the front. I think its going to look pretty good with all 4 wheels. Now I have two sets of pretty nice wheels for the 7. Let me know what you think. BTW, I picked all four wheels up for $50.

Anyone know what model wheels these are and when they were produced?

Congrats. And your reasoning makes a lot of sense.

I think you're lucky for getting them so cheap. I like those wheel a lot. You mentioned that you have two nice sets of wheels for the car. I hope you weren't referring to the wheels on the rear of the car as the other set. Leave the Enkeis on there and put the other two on as well. Later, QD.

Here's the 80's ride I've been putting around in since my car has been down......Just for you QD.....Domestic with domestic engine and all the numbers match.... It's a work in process and I've been making upgrades/general up keep for the last month or so. So far: New 4 piston calipers, rotors, pads, brake lines, new ceramic long tube headers, MSD ignition, wires, plugs, fluids, and finally upgraded the old school 2 knob push button stereo/cb with a cool retro looking Kenwood HU, Alpine amp, Eclipse 6x9 and 4x6's, and finally small Rockford sub..... REAL old school hodgepodge every brand stereo equipment stuff......like we did back in HS! I just had so much stereo equipment laying around, so I figured I'd use it....right?

    Anyway, here she is:

QD, the other wheels are Motegi Track Lites and are very nice IMO. But the Enkeis are definitely more from the period. The TR's are super light and I love that, not to mention not TOO many people have them. But yes I do plan on putting the Enkies on the rear as well.

After seeing countless upon countless black, 5-star wheels, I'm just not taken aback by them. They're just plain ole wheels to me, lolol.

I actually agree with you. The original owner changed it from the pop-up type to the flush type. They have a Lexan smoked lens that makes it flush, but I don't feel like putting it on and off all the time. Although, the pop-up kind were notorious for having problems with the wimpy vaccum actuator thing....I think I like the flush look better.

Absolutely NOT a cross fire injection. Those started in 81 or 82 I think. This one has an L82 in it with an aluminum Edelbrock intake. Internally it's all stock, although I'd love to put a little more aggressive cam and diff carb (it has a Quadrajet in it now which is "OK", but there are far better options). The Turbo 350 tranny is cool and all, but since it's only a 3 spd....it tachs kinda higher than I'd like at highway speeds. I'm going to talk to a guy that is a master GM tranny rebuilder and see if there is anything he can do to give it some kind of OD. There are swaps that can be done for that, but I don't want to go that route. It's not really all that serious, just that it'd be nice to tach less than 3k-3.5k at 65-70....

Ahhh, now, come on.....you still my boy blue!!!!

I really didn't have any intentions on fixing this one up and driving it, but since my car was down I figured "what the hell", right?

With the new stereo stuff, it really is much nicer to drive. I hated having to drive down the road listening to my Ipod... It's a work in progress. It has a ton more that could be done to bring it up to 100% of my liking, but for now it gets the job done. I'm mostly going to drive it around to give my car a rest every now and again. The Lex has almost 160k, so it's time to let her rest every once in a while. Although the Lex is by far faster than this....and I miss her bad.... I'm at the shop right now and Sam should be putting the finishing touches so I can have her back very soon.

I'll come by WHEN I GET AN INVITE, BIOTCH!!!...... I don't know where your new place is.

Yeah, that's one of those "swaps" I was talking about. I actually saw a 700R4 on CL the other day. I just don't really want to tackle that right now.

2.73 gears???? Wow! That's tall. Are you sure it's not that keeping your tach down?

The car was a 1984 or '85 FB with a Ford 302, Miata IRS, Megasquirt, and all the safety equipment necessary for a racecar. He raced it in NASA's ST2 class. The car was totalled at Rockingham, the road course not the drag strip, a couple of years ago when the backend came around and the car hit the outside wall in NASCAR turn 2.

I think Rob posted on RX7Club about the build and was nearly crucified.

I found a link to Rob's cardomain page with better pics of some of the mods. The final engine in the car was a stock fuel injected 5.0 engine from a '93 Mustang, iirc.

here's a pick of my 81 TE72 coupe. I allways wanted something different and allways wanted an AE but decided there too common and these are far more rare and also the engine in these things (3tc) love boost and are cheap to build plus added plus is no emissions and pretty much all suspension parts from the AE fit on these things.

eventually the rear end in it is blown, the tranny needs to be rebuilt, and it needs a new carbuerator. I used to take it out to the V meets. but it's been a while

my 1982 honda accord hatch back.
car had bad gas in the fuel tank and cause a lot of gunk and shit to get into my cylinders....so its currently down so i can get that shit cleaned up and get it running right.
this car....i love it....it was running pretty decent till i went to do a good tune-up and my #4 cylinder plug was straight black and covered with shit. so i'm guessing i drove it home on 3 cylinders. needs a new carb too, but that bitch is gonna cost me.

also customizin the back panels to fit some 6X9's

Here's the 1984 Corolla GTS John and I built last spring. It has a turbocharged 4a-gze engine built by John and painted by me. We totally dissassembled the body and the interior in order to do a quality color change. The car used to be red. We took the car to the Motorsports Nationals (Used to be NOPI) last Fall and won first place with the car in the Toyota, Lexus, Scion category. We were totally surprised to find out we had won, because there were some nice Lexuses and Scions. Old Skool beatin' out the new cars in style!

Here's our 1983 Datsun Maxima. The car is a factory 5 speed, RWD, and we swapped the L24 6 cylinder to an early 280z with 240z carbs. It's quick and a blast to drive. It's hard to beat the sound of a carbed Z-car motor.

The RX7 has been sitting in the same spot for about a week now. The starter finally quit so I decided to fix a bunch of stuff at one time this weekend. Replacing the starter, fuel filter, brake booster, front struts, strut mounts, trans fluid and cutting the rear springs. That wheel gap in the back is killing me with the smaller wheels and tires.

Its dirty and nasty right now, so be kind haha.
