Seriously though, you can go up to the mtn's and go 200mph without a problem...start off at around 80-100ish go to Richard Russel and on the sharp right handers just go straight. Will get EXCELLENT footage and top speed.
Odd, I should be able to do about 196-198mph top end with the exhaust work right now, everything else stock. It will breath better higher up. With the ECU reprogrammed and the exhaust (takes me from 9.5lbs to 16lbs of boost) we have confirmed radar and GPS tests of my car being able to hit around 205-207mph and still hold the road.Originally Posted by ZeroAccess

I guess im a wierd person but i have no desire to go those speeds on any road. I guess it would be neat to say i have a car that would do it, but the truth is at those speeds even if you and your car are able to do it, there are so many variable that could mess you up and equal almost certain death.. pothole, dog, gust of wind, whatever.
I agree as well. It IS nice to know that you have a car that will do it. That's why I let my fellow car owners in Europe run those top-end tests.Originally Posted by green91

I agree with Ruiner on this, you may have adequate power to get you to 200mph but not enough downforce in the front to hold it down. A small error at those speeds will ultimatly lead to death, considering you won't have the right safety equipment if needed.
I will have to go along with the others also, don't do something stupid as this on a public road. Why put yourself and others at risk? Is it really worth it? I've been to the Bonneville Salt Flats since I'm from Salt Lake City and that's the place to be....my mom took her Jeep GC out there and had a blast w/o worring about much. I will admit that I have done 155+ but that was in Kansas where there is NOTHING to be found or seen for miles.
Okay seriously, there probably isn't any car on here that can hit 200mph. For those attempting to top out, you will need a smooth road with minimal traffic as changing lanes at say 150mph is insane.
At speeds over 120mph, drag really comes into play here. The air is your biggest enemy. That is why you notice new exotics abandoned wings and figures out how to have downforce WITHOUT giant wings.
Then you simply needs TONS of power to push your car to 200mph. My 300hp GS 430 won't do it. You need probably about 450-500hp with good drag (a CD around .30).
THen your gearing has to be right. You can't run out of gearing flooring it. You also can't have your gears too far apart where it would take 2,000 miles (lol) to top out.
200mph, take it to ALMS.
You wreck on a public road at 200mph and you will die, you might hurt someone else, you will be wrong in court and in the public eye. Just not worth it.
I have topped my old GS 400 out at 152mph (speed limiter kicked in) getting my ass whooped by a M5 on I-10 in Florida (NICE flat road) and that shit is scary as hell and I won't do that again on a public road.

Yea I know all about aerodynamics man I won't even try to hit 200 in a car that isn't designed for it. The thing of it is, is that I've told all in this thread previously that I am only looking for a good back drop for a some motion photography and video shoot. It'd look cool seeing these cars in a place where they could POSSIBLY go 200. Contrary to the belief of most ppl, a good aerodynamics package would almost be a must for added stability at those speeds. Or the best thing to do would be to have a car thats built for it.Originally Posted by Ruiner
BTW I think a C6 Z06 and BMW M6 are designed to go 200mph so its not like I'm dealing with a bunch of civics and 240's.![]()

my friend who has a cbr 1100 said there is somewhere on i-285 that is almost 3 miles of just straight road. i dunno where that is exactly but u can look for it if u really want. he said its the best place around here, he said he hit 180ish there. its dumb though.
285 would be good for scenery around Smyrna which is what I'm looking for anyway. Thanks.

Yeah, and add the viper, ford GT, and Saleen S7 to that list. If you wanna do 200, you may as well get a hold of a race car.Originally Posted by nightracer

My STOCK top speed is around 191-192mph. Add in the exhaust and it will redline 6th gear out around 195-196mph, give or take. Up the boost 7psi (from 9.5 - ~16psi) and increase the rev limiter and you will hit 205-207 with ONLY ecu tune (up the boost) & exhaust as your only mods.
Then again, my car is geared to run that fast and as you said, gearing is VERY important. I also have a low CoD in the .30 area as well. Then there is the rear spoiler that comes up at 75mph which gives another....shit, I forget the exact poundage, but you get the idea in terms of downforce. Now lets look at the underbody anti-drag panel that allows for seamless airflow underneath the car w/o creating seriously drag via the front diff all the way back to the rear differential. Of course, anything you want to work on the bottom of the car you need to remove that panel.

I know they used to meet up and run from I20E to the airport. I just think 285 is the WORST bc of all the 18 wheelers and tons of road debris.Originally Posted by plv

Ur car clearly might b able to hit it (big P fan is me) the GT2 came close to hitting 200mph stock as ur turbo. Porsche has the knowledge and expertise. With your car the aerodynamics are there as well as downforce as well as being a car built fo.Upping the boost may let u hit 200! For u its just a matter of a few more top end poniesOriginally Posted by Ruiner
Also from my reading its easier to hit 200mph on an oval course than a straightaway...

Yeah, upping the boost would put me at about 520hp/550tq. It's a shame that I will never know as it is for sale. We have people overseas that have done the chip/exhaust mod and have seen 205mph+. Oh well, maybe some other time. I am giving a lot of thought into picking up a C6 Z06 a few years down the road. Perhaps the new 997TT, but we'll see. I wanna focus on my house right now and dropping all the money on modding my car isn't really financially wise at this point in time.Originally Posted by 1SICKLEX

997 would be teh s3x0r!
Best places I can think of and have made speed runs at:
I-20 eastbound right after columbia drive. Its about 1.3 miles downhill
I-675 anywhere. 675 is pretty much flat and has very few curves
Dont use 316. The road surface is very bumpy and at high speed really upsets the car
400 north after the tool booth up to 285 is a great run also
For a sustained speed of over 150mph take a short trip south of atlanta to I-16. Flat with no curves for miles
The good news is if we know of good spots for high speed runs, so does the law enforcement.
If you are doing 200mph and pass a cop sitting still and stop then thats your fault.
I have been unfortunate enough to pass a cop going 160 before. He flipped on the lights and jumped on the highway after me. By the time he got going good I was maybe 1.5 miles ahead. I simply got off at the next exit, got back on the interstate going the other way and never had a problem. Thats the advantage you have of moving so fast
I've already had my fun with my 996TT. I'll do it again, but if I have one sitting it the garage the temption to mod would be too great.Originally Posted by MongolPup

dam this post i think its really a waste of time most people on IA would be happy to his 120 and for the record about none of the cars here can hit 200mph and if some one thinks they can go try it and hope you have a fun death I personally don’t agree with speeding like dum ass’s on the interstate it takes one little fuck up for you to lose control at those speeds and most likely you will die if not taking other peoples lives with you so be smart and drive at speeds you know u can
im not saying I don’t speed I just don’t try to hit 200 mph on i20
Makes good sense, wise decison but surely a tough one! I prefer the 996 Turbo to the 997s looks. I know its not about looks but the new 997 turbo seems so busy to me. I prefer the GT3s cleaner lines.Originally Posted by Ruiner

^^ AgreedI have a picture of mine right before i hit 150...I was still going for about 15 sec after the pic was taken. I was coming up to a bend and didn't want to test my tires characteristics just yet since I'd only had the car not even 48 hrs haha.

Take a drive Montana and you will find yourself plenty of places to do it. Or go here http://www.silverstateclassic.com/
Dont try that shit on open public roads. How would you like it if you or a loved one was driving down the road and some fucking retard killed you or them for no good god damn reason.
I don't believe that the RS will be legal in the US. The previous 996 GT3 RS wasn't...Originally Posted by 1SICKLEX

How much distance will one need to reach 200 and would it have to be down hill. Ive got a place in north Ga you can try it has 2.5 mile straights with low traffic you will need spotters thou because there are some small hills nothing big. Plus there's only like two to three driveways on the whole stretch but its about an hour north of atl..
Have a Nice Day

True..... I did see mad cops on the way to a Mtn Run one sunday morning!
Me and Chnco, hit 175+ in a street race going 575N from barrett pkwy
I was in the red in sixth gear and decided to slow down, and yes Allen won
True, but if you are going to do that up there, take your plate off, do it at night, and if you pass a cop going on or the other or camping there are lots of roads to turn off on...turn off on one and pull into a drive way and put your plate back on real fast then drive normalOriginally Posted by Bballjamal
