Kinda understand?
1+base 1= 2
2+ base 1= 3
3+ base 1= 4
and so on....
but back to finding the decimal equiv. Just as .23 means 2/10 + 3/100, so when you can express a number less than 1 in base 5, say the number .342 (base 5), we mean 3/5 + 4/25 + 2/125. If you let .23 = a/5 + b/25 + c/125 then multiplying both sides by 5...
Converting to unary is easy just follow this guide

2 = ||
3 = |||
4 = ||||
5 = |||||
6 = ||||||
7 = |||||||
8 = ||||||||
