here's the deal, as long as it's a complete exhaust (not like mine that ends behind the resonator 2 feet in front of the rear wheels ) it is legal. It is illegal to sell an exhaust that is too loud, but there is no law on using it other than the local city ordinances of noise violations. There is no required maximum decibal output and if there was police don't even carry sound meters in this state so it wouldn't matter. Don't worry about it as long as you're not carrying anything and have a license and insurance.

As for the letter, did it have your address printed on it? when did they give it to you? after they took your license from you?

Wait: so does that mean as long as you pass emissions, it doesn't matter if you have a cat and it can be as loud as you want it to be?

No. What it means is that there is no exact db level specified, in that section at least. And i can tell you from experience that you definitely DO have to have a catalytic converter on your car. I have been pulled over for excessive noise twice in paulding county. One time the cop actually looked under the car for the cat. I asked him what was considered legal, and he told me that you must have a cat and a muffler. If you have that then it is legal. He let me go with minimal hassle. Keep in mind this just what this specific cop told me so it may or may not be true. The other time i got pulled over I was let go with nothing also.

Whats really funny is that my cat is a dummy... its a 2.5 inlet and outlet high flow cat that i cut the shell off of, gutted out, welded in a straight pipe throught the middle, and welded it back together. Works like a charm.

Yah, I do that. I rarely shift agressively in that area at all. I saw the cop comin and was shifting at 2.5k... Pretty quiet. He just stopped me because of the complaint I'm pretty sure...

They didn't take my license, and I didn't even get a ticket. Just a verbal warning to "drive more quietly" through my neighborhood. I'm trying to figure out if he was just BSing me about saying that my exhaust was against state code... Don't know if it had my whole address printed on it, but it did have my street name and a description of my car...
