Default Post your favorite bits of poetic wisdom

Some of mine come from a little known author by the name of John "Shady" Lain

"there always has been, there is now, and there shall always be, an abundance of things about which to complain. So, choose yours with wisdom ans discretion so as not to archive the reputation of a whiner."

    On a serious note,
There is one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it, comes the one human duty, the duty to take the consequences.

    No idea where it's from.

    to accept the things I cannot change;
    courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

There is no fear. Absolutely no fear. When one lives without fear, one cannot be broken. When one lives with fear one is broken before one begins to live.

Be strong. Live honorably and with dignity. When you don't think you can, hold on. *life is hard, kid. you gotta be harder. you gotta take it on and fight for it and be a fucking man about how you live it. if you're too much of a pussy to do that, then maybe you should leave, 'cause you're dead already'

Here is one that was read at a funeral I recently attended.

Brother when you weep for me
Remember that it was meant to be
Lay me down and when you leave
Remember I'll be at your sleeve
In every dark and choking hall
I'll be there as you slowly crawl
On every roof in driving snow
I'll hold your coat and you will know
In cellars hot with searing heat
At windows where a gate you meet
In closets where young children hide
You know I'll be there at your side
The House from which I now respond
    Is overstaffed with heroes gone
Men who answered one last bell
Did the job and did it well
    As firemen we understand
That death's a card dealt in our hand
A card we hope we never play
But one we hold there anyway
That card is something we ignore
As we crawl across a weakened floor
For we know that we're the only prayer
For anyone that might be there
So remember as you wipe your tears
The joy I knew throughout the years
As I did the job I loved to do
I pray that thought will see you through.

    Robert Frost-
Ah, when to the heart of man
Was it ever less than a treason
To go with the drift of things,
To yield with a grace to reason,
And bow and accept the end
Of a love or a season?
Try not. Do or Do not.

When I ran the Boston marathon, I knew that I'd be running past 500,000 people I'd never see again. I wanted to put something on my shirt that would be, I guess, my one-time advice for complete strangers. Something short and sweet that puts it all together. So the back of my shirt said:

    Life is short
    Love your friends
    Love your family

People wear all kinds of inspirational stuff for marathons, but I had multiple people tell me that it was the best shirt they'd seen all day/ever. An old guy thanked me for reminding him that life was short. Cheesy yes, but true.

Anybody who tells you money is the root of all evil doesn't fucking have any.
They say money can't buy happiness? Look at the fucking smile on my face. Ear to ear, baby.

And there is no such thing as a no sale call. A sale is made on every call you make. Either you sell the client some stock or he sells you a reason he can't. Either way a sale is made, the only question is who is gonna close? You or him? Now be relentless, that's it, I'm done.

I read this article a while back, that said that Microsoft employs more millionaire secretary's that any other company in the world. They took stock options over Christmas bonuses. It was a good move. I remember there was this picture, of one of the groundskeepers next to his Ferrari. Blew my mind. you see shit like that, and it just plants seeds, makes you think its possible, even easy. And then you turn on the TV, and there's just more of it. The $87 Million lottery winner, that kid actor that just made 20 million o his last movie, that internet stock that shot through the roof, you could have made millions if you had just gotten in early, and that's exactly what I wanted to do: get in. I didn't want to be an innovator any more, i just wanted to make the quick and easy buck, i just wanted in. The Notorious BIG said it best: "Either you're slingin' crack-rock, or you've got a wicked jump-shot." Nobody wants to work for it anymore. There's no honor in taking that after school job at Mickey Dee's, honor's in the dollar, kid. So I went the white boy way of slinging crack-rock: I became a stock broker.

not really poetic but here are a few quotes:

"Drugs may be the road to nowhere, but at least they're the scenic route."

“The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.”

“The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.”

"I've never had a problem with drugs, I've had problems with the police."

"Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened."
