    Dude....just go to the DMV, give them the VIN number of the vehicle and see who the vehicle was last registered to. I've had to do it once for myself.

    Get that contact info for the guy. They had my previous owners address listed on there as well as his phone number. Get in touch with him. Ask him/beg him/pay him to go to the DMV and claim a lost title because it was last registered under his name. And make sure when you talk to one of the DMV guys, that you explain the situation, otherwise it'll be a little weird/stalkerish.
