gas price gone up/ not runing out of fuel????
i dont know why the gas price gone up and down(mostly up), but i know that the oil and fuel supply of the world is not running out anytime soon. So why is it that gas price keep raising? i know that some people say it Bush and the war crappy, and also the hurricans, but i think it something more then that... well if there anyother things that effect gas price just post it up please.. thanks

OPEC, they do this shit all the time, and especially when shit goes down with foriegn countries especially ones that are around oil, they raise the prices of the oil making it look like us going to war is raising the prices, when in reality, we refine most of our oil over here. we only get about 10% of our oil from those places in the mid east so its just an excuse for them, because of their greed

I heard it was somethin' to do with the taxes coming back into affect... not sure how much they tax gas but i guess that explains part of it.
They are about to go down a little from what my boss told me (I now work at a Chevron station)

You Forgot the refining process to make the precious commodities our cars need to run... gas, motor oil - refined portions of oil.. alsoo asphalt so we have a decent road to drive on...
its called the main refineries for the south east oil were hit by hurricanes.

if you pick up the most recent NEWSWEEK, it shows the break down and costs of how it adds up to what we pay at the pump...
from refining to adding additives to delivery to the stations marking it up.
it also doesnt help that the Venzuelan president hates the US. He's a crazy leftist and his best friend is Fidel Castro. He threatened that he would mark up barrels from $70 - $100 a barrel if we dont kiss his ass. Apparently Venezuelan oil is our highest source of oil supplies, Citgo, Exxon, Chevron, Petrobas, and a few others all get their oil from Venezuela.....so.....technically speaking....oil prices are controlled by communist.
the supply is low, just look at all the stores that don't have gas, the rise in cost is due to low supply, I know of several QT's ( I work for QT) that are out, and have been out for a few days, and some other stations that are in the same boat, all the price mark up is legit, we aren't running out in the whole scheme of things, but our supply coming from the west has been all but cut-off

As has been stated already, basic economics goes a long way to explain the rise in gas prices. Other factors include:
No new refineries in 30 years.
Assinine government regulations that require dozens of different 'blends' to be refined (this is why gas prices go up in summer, they must refine multiple summer blends... that and demand goes up in summer).
Gas taxes (not that much, but it adds up)
New demand from india and china
Oooooooorr you could just blame Bush for it, if you don't feel like thinking.

ohh and how are wee all but cut off when QT on 124 in snellville is still 2.999 per gallon for regular, Exxon on 20 in Grayson is at 2.989 for regular, and there is a Citgo on 78 that is at 2.979 for regular...I believe what i stated above because I agree with ahmonrah and that it is all greed from every stand point. For the refineries to the gas stations its all greed.

If WE have to pay $60-$70 a barrel for CRUDE oil aka not gasoline, it takes money to load in onto a tanker, it costs money to make that tanker travel to the refining stations, it takes money to put in additives, it takes money to transport it to gasoline holding tanks, it cost money to transport it to the gas stations, it cost money for the gas station to operate in order to provide you with the gas.
you add in state taxes, and that's our finalized price.
and some of you will argue that there shouldnt be a gas tax.....okay, do you like that nifty road you are one? do you like those nifty police officers that patrol your neighborhoods? do you like those firemen that come to your house to put out the fires? or how about those school busses that come and pick up your kids?
everything costs something, and our taxes are what pay for that....every little bit counts, so let's say we cut the gas tax....well that just takes away from the anunal budget of things that the Local Govt has to take care of...road maintence, funding of police, fire dept, repairing water and seweage lines......
so of the things I have listed, which can you do without? because if you take out taxes here and there, the local GOVT will have to cut costs in certain areas and it will effect us.
and I commend Sonny Purdue for temporarily holding the gas tax for a month, but I knew it was a bad idea from the get go, because now everyone will bitch once it is put back into place, and say that everyone is trying to make money.
bottom line, if the price of barrel goes up, price will increase....Any company is in it to make a profit....please show me a company that is willing to lose money to operate? Wether it is a small profit or large profit...a gain is a gain....so making money is GREED? Simple Economics.

I agree with most of what you said, but try not to make the mistake of thinking that our tax revenue always goes to real infrastructure. Georgia's budget, just like every other state's, is filled to the brim with pork.
Though as far as taxes go, it makes sense for those that use the roads to be the one paying most of the taxes for their upkeep, via a gas tax. Just be careful when defending taxation in general. Politicians love to hear that.

I mean I have nothing against the price...i still think it's a pretty descent price. I have nothing against the taxes either...they are good, but I believe that when Sonny Predue said we lost 7 million whatever dollars I think is completely the opposite in that we did not MAKE that 7 million or something like that. But in now way do I disagree with your statement on about taxes and now i see your point on what you mean by the price that we get.

Yes, that 'lost' comment pissed me off too. Politicians don't 'lose' money. It's just money they don't take from you. They don't 'earn' money either.
It's like when a politicians pet program has it's increase in yearly funding decreased (say, 5% budget increase instead of 7%). They call it a 'cut' and 'eviscerating the program'.

Well, I'm a die hard republican....and I'm a die hard patriot of this country, I know there is scandals and dirty politicians, but for the most part I believe in our Govt system, and want this country to get turned around on where the people believe in our government and stop with the govt bashing....
I mean, 20, 40, 60 years ago....people had so much more pride in their govt than we do now.

Damn!! all yall reply have been pretty true so far. the reason gas price gone up (to me) is not becuase gas station is price gouging. they actually lose revenue when gas price go up when a sudden spike goes up. that why you see most gas station is a convenience store as well, to get you to buy something while you at the gas pump filling up.
the US hasn't Build a new refining in 30 years, for good reason, US can easily import from overseas such as from the caribbean, south america, and india. it cheaper and faster to do it overseas.
US now import 60% of it oil overseas, and it will grow as years goes.the reason is (to me) greed and fear. WE have this fear that the oil supply with be depeted and therefore oil producer jack up the price to take the fear and use it against us and make money off of it.
ONe of our major oil supplier is from Venezuela. the reason is because it closer to the US and it takes just 4 days to reach us.I read in Fortune and this what they have to say about Hugo Chavez the leftist president of Venuzuela. Venezuela suppled oneseventh of our imported oil, or 1.6 million barells a day. and that's help the fiery socialist Chavez challenge Big Oil. He's hiking taxes and royalties on the international giants, even as he strengthens the hand of OPEC and State-owned energy companies around the owrld, What's more, Chavez has threatened to shut the spigot if the bush administration challenges his grip on power in Caracas."The reason we dont act on this is we depend of venuzuela oil. well if he get his way as yall already said the amount of money for a barrel of oil would be 100$. we paid him 15 million a ship load of oil or 36,000 barrels.
there might be good news tho, Canda having this new plan to coverted oil sand in to oil but the process is complicated and expenisive right now, but as gas price and oil price goes up, it might grow. and cheaper to do.

What you can do:
You have no way of producing more supply, but you can slow down demand by not driving as much, and changing your driving habits. Take all the shit in your trunk out, and make sure your tires are inflated properly. Quit making trips that aren't needed.

In todays world we have to blame every problem on someone. Almost everyone has a prescription for something. People spend more time learning about celebs or athletes than they do about their leaders and government. It's scary that an Indian guy I work with (been in the states maybe 5 years) knows more about American Politics and History than probably 90%+ of the people our age.
