The Klan started roughly in 1865, and by 1867 they started killing, supressing, and torturing blacks. They wanted a white man's government, and took out all their hate against the federal government on blacks in the South. They were racist from start to finish. Their goals were to supress blacks to the point where it was "legal" slavery again.
