Yes, IA may be the school of hard knocks - but that's part of why i like it so much. I hope moderators can keep each other in check with this, especially after the complete lacking of moderator control AnthonyF displayed in his feedback thread last week.
hondatech learned this the hard way... after they implemented these rules member log on rates dropped.

I thought this was a CAR-related site not no damn yellow pages.
All these new sponsors and new stuff going on is whack if you ask me.
We should be getting CAR RELATED sponsors, not no restaurant, churches, and other crazy unrelated stuff.
I don't think this forum has ever seen a group buy.
And I understand the rule or whatever, but is this not a public forum? I thought it was. Anyone should be able to speak their mind.
And I don't understand this. You guys would rather listen to a n00b about getting bashed and help him/her to be on this site then just deal with it because he/she isn't why this site has grown. It was us. I mean look at how many members that we have over 3k+ posts. We are everywhere. As long as IA keeps doing what it has for the last couple of years, it will grow whether that one n00b stays here or not.
In my opinion, you (admins) should be attending more car shows/meets, handing out stickers/t-shirts/banners whatever to get people on the site not having Applebees sponsor us.
But then again, fuck the old members, it's all about the money these days, aint it?

All I'm saying is, if this is going to be a car related website, let it be car related.
And Mike, I'm not being a communist. I'm just saying what is on my mind. Is that not allowed as well now?
I really don't think this is a good idea BUT if it somehow pulls through, then good job.
Also, there is no way in hell you can compare HT to IA. Is the chiropractor sponsoring them? Nope. All sponsors are car related on there. Honda-Tech stuck to what their purpose of a forum was, which is Hondas/Acuras/Anything Car Related, not where I can find the best chiropractor in town.Originally Posted by Vteckidd

Off all the meets that I've been into, I've only seen one with something about ImportAtlanta which was Tunerfest. Paul and whoever should be at the Varsity and the Sonics meets and all the other ones, handing shit out to get the name out there. Thats money right there as well.
But whatever, I really don't care.
I'm done with this thread.
BUY MY HATCH <--click the link, cuz.
look no one likes change, but its inevitable. The site has outgrown 5000 members, it costs more to run the site now than it did before. You really think MEETS generate income LOL. It doesnt. Tunerfest , as i understand it, they pretty much broke even every year, so it was put on just for YOU, the enthusiast.Originally Posted by HeLLo iM iZzY
This site is not about cars anymore, it hasnt been for A LONG TIME. People may JOIN because they are INTO CARS, but it migrated from a CAR SITE years ago IMO.
I mean we have photography people , Audio People, food people, gun people, sports people, etc. its actually VERY diverse.
I mean look at the TECH sections, they get 1/100th of the traffic that the WL get. The killsforum has been dead for awhile.
I mean if you think this is a CAR site, you are mistaken. Its a very big an diverse crowd, why not cater to that?
I mean eventually you will be able to read restaurant reviews, gun reviews, tire reviews, game reviews, movie reviews etc. You will get sponsors that offer discounts to your favorite places, that is helping YOU out while covering the cost it takes to grow the website, add new features, throw more meets/events, etc.
I think alot of you are looking way too far into it, as i have said 10 times, 99% of you wont notice a difference, just more CONTENT. Change is difficult for some people, but i promise you the experience will be much smoother and concise in the end once the growing pains are gone.

I dont know IA money situation and thats for the owners and thats NOT what im saying. Im saying to do what they want to do, which is upgrade Vbulletin so YOU have a USER CP, add new features, throw new events, upgrade server hardware to deal with the users we have on here, it COSTS MONEY.
Dude most of the OGs are approaching 30 or over 30. Many have families. Im not spending my thursday night at the Varsity passing out fliers to a bunch of ricer kids that are there to do burnouts. Then IF they do join the site, they get bashed anyway by guys like you an they leave. Doesnt really solve the problem does it? How are new members bringing revenue? Sponsors generate income, not USERS. USERS CAN dictate how much you CHARGE to sponsor. What i see is a chance to really diversify and bring alot of different stuff to the site. Hey why limit ourselves to parking lots for meets.
Why not support local businesses that most of us need or go to anyway? What if you get ina car wreck and need to see a chiropractor? why not have a list of 20 to choose from on IA? What if you want to go to a restaurant with your significant other and have no clue where to go? why not read a review or see links to websites of local run businesses to help you in your decision? The internet is VERY powerfull, why not use it?
I dont mean to sound condescending , but many of us run businesses, run our own business, etc and there are certain COMPROMISES you have to do to make the site BETTER.
Dont pass judgement until you have seen what is to come.

here's an instance that just happened...
my friend [h23bb4] posted up in the columbus forum - i called him gay for mentioning how he is going to be working one someone else's "piece." (which obviously he meant someone else's car... common sense would tell that.)
his post and mine were deleted...
if this is a preview of what we can look forward to, then i have a feeling other small local forums will start popping up and IA will lose it's seeming "monopoly" in GA.

that's EXACTLY what i think is going to happen. I'm going to say something off the wall to one of my buddies that admin doesn't know is my buddy and the shit will get deleted and it'll be ridiculous. There's going to be a whole lot of that shit just to make a point. and people are going to get tired of it and not get on as much as they used to because they can't do shit anymore.Originally Posted by se7en

IA is on the verge of a southeastern forum, not just atl. so you don't want to start getting too persnickity right now or people will just give up. i mean how many noobs really pm'd you and called it quits, admin? like 1 a day tops? those are the guys that just don't need to be on forums anyway. and if you're going to say what forum lets you get away with half the stuff we do... then show me their active member numbers... i bet it's not 1000+ everyday like we have. this is a very good board and noobs that get butt hurt just need to keep moving and we'll get 8 more to replace them.
You know people bitch on HT, but they are still there, and sponsors still pay. When a site gets so big, you either adapt, or end up like Import Lounge and drive everyone away.Originally Posted by Mr. Clean

This site , like it or not, is a business, it COSTS MONEY to run, and operate, Upgrade, etc.
Everyone can pay $5 a month, or let us get sponsors. Plus the site is outgrowing CARS, there will always be CORE CAR people on here, but its branching out into other intersts and becoming more of a community.
theres nothing wrong with Applebees, or Chillis, or Playboy, or Guns N Ammo sponsoring the board, it brings more revenue which means a faster site, less bugs, more meets (that IA sponsors with PRIZES like they have always done) etc.
Im going to talk to the owners about T-shirts and hats to get made and im always out at MOST meets.

Can someone give me an example of something a CAR forum has ever been succcessful at being other than a CAR FORUM? Yes, something in common brought everyone together here on IA, but a "community" it is not. I do have friends on here, i have met friends through this site... but trying to change it into something it is not will be a very, VERY complicated process that will most likely be the start of another lame forum.
Import Lounge was the freakin bomb when i started getting into cars. Import Atlanta soon took over because they had something IL did not... a basic freedom to post whatever you wanted, talk smack, call your friends GAY, and overall liberty with basic rules to keep the peace. (which is exactly what it had until recently)
This is why, i believe, this is a very bad idea. It's turning moderators who are supposed to make sure that folks don't kill each other on the forums, into the Politically Correct Police. Which always has bad results.

you guys should really press the "schwag" section on the front page more... or better yet find someone on here who owns a place and will make IA shirts and hats and stickers and banners and all kinds of shit for the waaaaay downlow and sell them shits on here for hella profit. if people on here can get stickers for like $3-4 and shirts for like $15 and you can find somewhere to get them for $5/pc. no one on IA will care and I, for one, will buy a shirt no problem... cause i'm that kind of whore lol.
I'm sure the site is expensive to run but it looks like you guys have tons of sponsors. and if money is all you need there are ways to get it. there are enough members to where a little money from each person would really add up.
i just really genuinely think that cracking down THIS hard on the rules isn't going to solve much. i mean what was the core reason?
1) keeping more members around
2) looking good for the sponsors
3) less PMs for an admin or mod to look at
i haven't really seen a good answer to that question on why these rules are all in a sudden going to be enforced.
i understand we're almost to the point of beating a dead horse, but i just really don't want to have to worry about what i post now and that i might get a PM or the ban stick the next day. IA is essentially how i keep up with what 50-60+ people are doing at any given time. how else would know about all these little meets and what people are doing to their cars and blablablaba. as long as mods and admins keep a common sense POV then this will be ok, but you guys are going to see a lot of pushing back if it starts getting ridiculous (this is not a threat or anything, i'm just saying people are going to complain more than when we lost the goddamn user CP).
I understand, and i PROMISE you and you can quote me, we will not start eliminating people and run this like a policed site. We are NOT here to police members, all we are asking is to show a little more restraint, and a little more politeness.Originally Posted by Mr. Clean

I think another way to generate revenue would be to offer different levels of memberships to this forum, much like other well known and much larger sites already do....Not that what I'm saying is some monumental discovery or anything of the like but maybe it's something you guys should seriously consider.
^^ it would create alot of bashing. that section would have to be STRONGLY watched by the mods.
see thats what i don't understand... :-) there is where you need to use the back button and go to another part of the forum if you just want to bash...:-) everyone should have a place to go to talk about their rides without being bashed all the time... if you want to bash it then start a thread in WL to bash but leave the other thread alone so that people who really care about what is being said can enjoy it and not muddy it up with a bunch of BS. I just don't understand why that is so hard to do...:-)Originally Posted by tdurr

i dont mean to bring down a great thing, because i really dont mind. But you all really cant be serious about this bashing, and harrassing issues, with the Red Light section up..... its like when IA had censored curse words..lol
Eh. When it's all said and done at least we still have the WL...It's better than nothing.
so are you guys ALWAYS going to take the side of the bashee? cause this jellybean chick just begs to get bashed all the time. do your research if you don't believe me.

hey if someone is a complete douch bag on here, flame them, just do it in the WL , not the rest of the board where sponsors lurk, post, and this will keep the threads from becoming utter shit by the bandwagon people that want to add 45 pages of useless talk to a thread.

One more question. What is the policy if a person has a particular legitimate issue with a sponsor that has not been resolved? For example: Customer takes car to sponsor's shop for work. Sponsor removes engine, then stops. Customer waits 2 years asking for his car to be finished, then finally picks up the unfinished car, minus the parts that the owner of the shop has sold off. Customer is out many thousands of dollars (his $7K down in cash), an engine, and a lot of brand new parts - with nothing to show for it. Customer comes on here and shares his story. Will the customer who got screwed over be banned?Originally Posted by Vteckidd
Don't say that it doesn't happen. I know of this exact situation happening with a shop in town. I actually have documented multiple major issues with multiple shops over the years, and I just don't tend to bash, but if someone did post up their story, would that be considered bashing a site sponsor? Will legitmate information be withheld in the event that it conflicts with a site sponsor? I've seen many people over the years post up info similar to this, so this is a legitimate question.
i suppose. you don't want every thread looking like all the threads in the goon squad section lol. goddamn whoreslounge in every thread lol.
well i am normally pretty tactful with anything i say on here so i guess i don't really have much to worry about. i guess i'll let this thread rest... probably. unless i am inspired again lol.
I do agree with the comment that JITB added about the RLD. If the site is to be cleaned up for the eyes of potential sponsors, should forums promoting porn AND street racing be on here? Like Joseph said, we had cuss words censored out but with a couple of clicks we could watch people having sex and vocalizing the very cuss words we couldn't type. Later, QD.
i think we could password protect the RLD and restrict it to people that "qualify" if that makes sense.Originally Posted by quickdodge®
In all honestly most sponsors wont care, i mean its labled RLD and says what it is, just like WHORESlounge is alot of stuff potential sponsors dont want to see.
I dont think the site is changing FOR the SPONSORS and to let them RUN it so it appeases THEM, more , i think its ASKING the MEMBERS to be COGNIZANT of the sponsors and what the site is moving towards.
