Try this trick that I learned in the Army; sneak up on your victim from behind with a bayonet (or any other short-handed blade) and wrap your free hand over their mouth. Human instinct will have them raise their arm(s) in a motion of self defense. When this is done, quickly thrust the knife up and into their now exposed armpit. There is a major artery here and severing it will cause a quick bleedout. The bonus of using this method is that by strike their armpit instead of slitting their throat, the sprayed blood is contained within their clothing and allows for a faster and more discrete cover-up.

I play 12s on my Stratocaster, and 13s on my Martin. Which if I remember correctly the lower strings are equivalent to higher ones on a set of light gauge bass strings.

As for the bayonet thing, I've heard about it but I can't imagine stabbing someone in the arm pit.
