NEVER Leave Things In Your Car at Dealerships

Hear this:

Left the car off, window was broken Valentine One radar detector stolen. Was the brand new Alpine radio stolen? No. Tools in the back stolen? No.

Also the valentine one was hard wired and there is no way someone would have seen it unless they knew it was there.

Oh and the dealership says, if you want to call the dealership you can, but we wont pay for it.

Thoughts?

I'm 99% sure it was a technician due to the circumstances. Also how is a dealership not liable for this?

Edit: No it wasnt an Atlanta area VW dealership.

Yeah getting some vac lines replaced. It def. sounds like it was one of their workers.

Damn man where did you take the car? Heritage? The reason they aren't on the hook for this is because either somewhere in the paper work that you signed or there is a sign somewhere that says that they aren't responsible for any personal belongings left in the vehicle.

However, since the car was in their posession it is their it is THEIR responsibility to keep the car secure. So if the car was broken into at the dealership then they failed to keep the car secure and they should be on the hook for it. Talk to the GM or owner direct and if that doesn't work keep working your way up the ladder until you hit corporate consumer affairs.

The thing is I never signed anything. In most cases you would, but I know the service manager so he didnt make me sign shit.

I agree, I dont want to get into it with my service manager(a good one is hard to come by when you drive a vw), so I think I will be taking this up with the general manager.

Oh no doubt. When I had the tC I went through three dealers before I finally found one that was worth a damn .

Do what you think is best but like I said if you can't find a solution through the dealer than you need to take it to corporate. Trust me they get shit done.

Its not the dealerships fault its some low level employees, those exist at all shops, not just dealerships.

Like I said above, low level employees are to blame.

Once I find a good service manager I will follow them wherever they go, even if my shit gets jacked. It won't happen again so who cares.

Certain VW dealerships have been known to browse forums and make their own accounts. So the person you talked to at the dealership is probably watching the forums for you and whoever it was that took it is probably watching the forums too. So be careful about giving away your next move. Did you have an IA or a sticker from any other forum on your car?

idk about a technician since their name/number is on the ticket... but i definatelyh wouldnt put it past a porter... i work at a dealership and none of the technicians here would do anyhting like that, but i know of a porter or two that have/would do stupid sh!t like that... just my

I would go directly to the owner. Just have a calm civil discussion and explain what happened.
See if your auto insurance will cover it, It may even be the case that if you have home owners or renters insurance it may cover it. Never hurts to ask.

I hate to tell you but technicians who work on cars have their employee numbers on everything they touch and management is quick to put blame on them for stuff, i doubt a tech would be stupid enough to steal from a car.

Thats just fucked up. The hell I would raise... My buddies had his Z06 completely trashed by vandals while getting some 90k work done it. Mr. Green worked his way up to corporate and raised hell until they gave him a brand new one.

I would never take my car to a shop, but if I did, I would remove anything valuable before it went in. But the fact that you were disrespected definitely calls for some pistol-whipping action upon someone's forehead.
