    Who all here is learing how to speak Japanese?? We can form a thread and only speak japanese in it cuz it's pretty hard to learn when you don't speak it everyday,and since some of you cats are on here everyday it might be good for you!!!

    Is there like a website that has American words translated in Japanese? I'd really like to learn it but have no idea where to start, but I can't afford to take any classes for it right now!...lol

    i'd recommend Genki Vol 1. its a really good way to learn, starts from scratch basically. along with using rosetta stone it works @ a good pace and what not. but if you just want a site that will translate words for you...

    Online translators are garbage. Your best bet is to just buy a Japanese dictionary or phrase book.

    Also, you can go to www.njstar.com and download the free version of their Japanese program. It's basically like MS Word for Japanese. Even has a built in dictionary and daily kanji.

    Both "anata" and "omae" are both pretty rude actually. Avoid using pronouns whenever possible. If you know their name, use that. If the person or subject in the matter is already established, just omit it all together.

    Anata > Kimi > Omae > Kisama

    Kimi is a more feminine way of saying "you" but is still very informal.

    Anata is used as an emphasis on that person being the "out group". Otherwise rude as in "Hey you, person not aphiliated with me" Somewhat rude.. especially to your superior :P
