It is my personal opinion. We just yanked a 1.8T out of a '00 Golf. They had more useless sh*t on that engine than I have ever seen. They would have multiple hoses/lines from one part to another. Why did they have SO many? Why not just one?
What it seems is, they create these engines on a new desgin. The test it and find MULTIPLE things wrong with it. So they have to add all this other garbage to make it run right.
Manufacturers need to do what honda does, get input from their top techs.
"What should we do here?"
"How can we clean this up?"
"We want this, to fit that while being able to be easily worked on, suggestions?"
etc...
Have you ever worked on cars? Like, multiple cars, not just your own. Honda has some of the best setups ever. See, the engineers dont think when creating or putting parts on a car. We get cars in where a simple O2 is in the tightest possible location and they had an infinite amount of space everywhere else.
CLIFFS-what I am trying to say is, they over engineer a lot of items, not just VW, Ford does it, Jag, Audi, etc...
