Review...anyone been to Toyota of Roswell?

Mom took her 2003 Toyota Camry. It just recently rolled 82,000mi and so she took it in to just get a maintenance check and stuff like that. So she went to Toyota of Roswell to get checked up (on Alpharhetta Hwy)

When she took it in they suggested several things on it. I've driven the car myself and it seems fine. Granted I know some of this is routine and/or preventative maintenance, but wanted to see some other opinions.

They suggested the drive belts be replaced (understandable)
The back brake be adjusted (I've never felt a problem with them, and my mom drives gently. They said the front brakes were doing most of the braking...isn't that how it's SUPPOSED to be?)
The brakes need flushing
The coolant needs flushing (she does this herself like every other year)
The transmission needs flushing (this was done at 53,000mi, but Toyota was unaware of this)

Just wanted to get some other opinions. Thanks in advance!

I used to take my Yaris to Toyota of Roswell for all of my service and never had a problem with them. They never over-diagnosed any problems that I hadn't noticed myself and the service was quick and customer friendly.

If you notice the problems, then have them fix them. If you take care of some of them yourself (ex: coolant) then don't worry about it.

Alright, cool. I don't really even touch my mom's car, so I haven't taken a look at the parts...but I've not heard anything bad from Toyota of Roswell. But at the same time...I just don't know about those back brakes.

Drums should be adjusted after 75k, but its nothing serious really, just replace the springs. 10 minute job. Coolant and trans flush they're just going by interval

Brake fluid shouldnt ever have to be flushed in your average car unless you get water/condensation in it.

You sound like a knowledgable car guy. Just check them out yourself and go from there.

The only bad experience I've had at a Roswell dealer is with Mazda of Roswell. Service was not friendly at all and the parts counter had no idea what they were doing.

LoL. I'm fairly on top of my game. Just turned 22. Was rebuilding engines at the age of 14. Built everything on my cars myself. I'm leaving with the Marines as Aviation Tech. It seems my mechanical skills are needed in a different direction for this grand country we live in. I don't have time to work on her car, otherwise I would. I leave sunday with the Marines. I worked at a couple shops here in Atlanta, and worked on SEVERAL cars from IA. Ask around.

I'm not much aware of people's mechanical reputations on IA since I tend to camp out in the WL most of the time. Props on your work though and best of luck in the service. We'll be waiting for you when you graduate.

Maybe since I'm a Toyota tech i can provide you some insight, although i am not an employee of Roswell Toyota.

1) I typically don't recommend drive belt(s) until they are cracking. 4cyl 03 Camry's usually crack between 80-90k. v6 Camry's typically don't need drive belts until you do the t-belt at 90k.

2) Toyota recommends cleaning & adjusting brakes every 15k miles, to keep the rear shoes within adjustment (4-5 clicks on parking brake) and also to clean the dust to keep the brakes quiet. if the shoes are out of adjustment it will make the pedal lower and causes the front brakes to actuate sooner than they should (rears should actuate slightly faster to avoid some nosedive)

3) brake flushes are recommended once the fluid becomes darker. since brake fluid is hygroscopic it does absorb water so i tend to flush mine ones every 2 yrs or so.

4) most Toyota techs will recommend flushing the coolant system if it has any green or mixture of coolant and replace it with Toyota red long-life coolant.

5) 03 Camry uses Toyota type-4 fluid which oxidizes and contaminates very quickly so its very possible that the fluid is dark again and may need flushing.

overall I'd say they were very easy on your mom, I've definitely written up much worse service requests at that mileage.
