I wouldn't drink the water without boiling it, LOL!

I spent an entire summer visiting the town my mother grew up in. We stayed at one her friend's houses that still lived in the town. No running water, no bathroom/shower, no air conditioning (hah) or gas. 2 light bulbs in the 'house' with an average electricity bill of about $3 a month. Most of the electricity being used by a sewing machine the lady used to make money for food, electricity and other necessities. I had to even go and help pick corn in the fields (which were a 2 mile hike to get to), take it to be ground up and use it to barter for beans and other vegetables from other families. The 'house' was made of a mixture of cement, mud, wood and stones.

It was a very humbling experience. I definitely don't take things like running water for granted anymore. This was the point of our trip there, heh.
LOL! I can't argue about the water issue...

but yeah, ive never been to mexico but i have seen pictures. from where my mom/dad grew up and some recent picture of how some of my mom's family lives over there.. my family all came from acapulco, which isn't as bad as other places, but still not all that great..

and yeah, after seeing the environment they grew in, i can see why they wouldn't want their kids growing up there. it really is sad when people automatically think that mexican's come here because they just felt like doing it... wrong, a better life and future for their children. is why...
