It stands for Beyond Petroleum. And that BP that you're talking about was an Amoco. It still says Amoco fuels on the outside because thats the company thats refining the gas

It is British, beyond petroleum is a slogan they came up with so they don't look like the greedy oil company and are researching alternative fuels.

I call it Pleasant Hill...or Petco sometimes, because it was in the Petco parking lot.

Been a while since I've been there.

Incorrect, they changed it to "BP" officially in 2000

Following a series of mergers and acquisitions with Amoco, ARCO, Burmah Castrol and Vastar, by 2001 BP had become the largest oil and gas producer and one of the largest gasoline retailers in the United States. But the history of the companies that came to form today’s BP stretches way back into the 1800s. British Petroleum, which traces its origin to 1901, was already known informally as BP when it made its most notable entry into the North American oil business as a pioneer explorer in Alaska during the late 1950s. BP was rewarded for 10 years' exploration effort when, in 1969, it made a major oil discovery at Prudhoe Bay on Alaska’s North Slope. When it became clear that, through its large share in Prudhoe Bay, BP owned part of the biggest oilfield in the U.S., the company decided that its Alaskan oil could best be handled by a well-established US refining and marketing company.

In 2000, BP Amoco acquired ARCO and Vastar. The company then decided to become known worldwide simply as BP.</

Now, in the 21st century, with a combined American history stretching back to 1866, BP is a major U.S. presence. ARCO, SOHIO, Amoco, Vastar and BP legacy operations consist of oil and gas exploration and production, oil refining and products marketing, petrochemicals, natural gas trading and solar energy.

Today, BP employees in the United States equal about 40 percent of the 100,000-member global workforce, and BP fixed assets in the U.S. account for almost half of the company’s assets and revenues. BP business in the United States is carried out by BP America, Inc., and its U.S. subsidiaries.

As one of the United States' largest producers of oil and natural gas, BP is working to meet the country's growing energy needs with expertise, innovation, corporate responsibility and financial strengths that have been established during almost 140 years of history.
